About Nirma Institute of Management - NIM

The Institute of Management', previously know as Nirma Institute of Management, is a constituent of the distinguished Nirma University of Science and Technology. The Institute was established in 1996 with a view to promote excellence in management education and to prepare young men & women to meet the challenges of the developing corporate world. In a short span of less than a decade, the Institute has emerged as an excellent business school. Having ranked amongst the top 10 Business Schools established Post 1990 (Outlook, September 2003), the institute is well equipped to bring out the best managers for the nation. The Institute of Management is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2 (F) of UGC Act. Hence, all the Post-graduate degree of the Institute is recognized as equivalent to the Post-graduate degree of any other Indian university. Similarly, the Institute’s Ph.D. degree is also recognized as equivalent to Ph.D. of any other Indian University. The Institute building, which is centrally air-conditioned, has several amphitheatres, flat classrooms, an auditorium with the capacity of 450 seats, computer centres, a communication lab, a fully automated library, an art gallery, faculty and administration blocks, conference rooms and other facilities. Modernity, aesthetics and grandeur characterise the building. The campus also has modern sports facilities.

Location - The Institute is located on the outskirts of Ahmedabad City, about 5 Kms from the New Gujarat High Court, 25 Kms from the Railway Station/Air-port and about 20 Kms from the Income Tax Circle, Ashram Road.

Facilities

Library - The Library at Institute of Management houses more than 25,000 volumes of books selectively chosen for reading and reference. The collection includes resources relevant to teaching, learning, training, research and consultancy needs of the Institute. About 185 printed, national & international, periodicals are subscribed to so that the participants keep themselves updated with the trends in the global market place. Classrooms - The classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with multimedia and audio-visual equipment to facilitate effective learning. The classrooms are designed to promote maximum interaction between the faculty and the students. Each classroom has Internet connectivity.

Hostels - Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a residential full-time programme. All students herein are required to stay in the Hostel throughout duration of the programme. Any student having an exceptional case can be granted permission to stay outside the hostel. The Institute has separate hostel facilities for male and female students. Both hostels are located on the University Campus. Hostel rooms are spacious and well-furnished. The students are required to have their own computers in the hostel rooms wherein everybody can have the Local Area Network connectivity & Internet connectivity. The hostel also has sports and other recreational facilities for the students. The hostel mess is administered by a private contractor and vegetarian food is available in meals.

Facilities at Hostel:

  • Laundry - The Students residing in the hostel can avail of Laundry facilities provided by local washer man on payment basis.
  • Medical Facilities - The institute has made special arrangements for the dispensation of medical facilities on the campus by deputing a Doctor who visits daily (except Sunday) from 5.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
  • STD Facility - STD facility is available at the campus till 11:00 pm on payment basis. The STD booth is located at the canteen.
  • In-Coming Calls - Students can receive calls on the hostel extension numbers 148, 149 and 500. The Institutes telephone numbers 02717-241900-04 are programmed to receive directly at the hostel extensions after the office hours (06:00 p.m. to 09:00 a.m.)
  • Communication - All Letters, Faxes and other communications received by the Institute for the students are kept in the Pigeon holes of the students. The students are expected to give their addresses for correspondence mentioning Roll Number.
  • Listing of Assets - The students who bring their own computer, printer, music system, etc., in their hostel rooms must give a list of all such items to the Hostel Warden / Supervisor to avoid inconvenience while taking away these items out of the campus.

Management Development Centre - Management Development Centre of the institute is the fulcrum of the Institute–industry symbiosis. Computer Centre - Computing facilities for the students include a well equipped lab. A state-of-the-art gigabit network connects every corner of the Institute. Every student and faculty member has a networked personal computer at his or her disposal. High-speed servers running on a variety of platforms to suit all kinds of requirements support the entire network. A 8 mbps dedicated optic fiber leased line and wi-fi hotspots enable round the clock internet connectivity on the campus. The Institute has also acquired the latest software, namely SPSS v15 and Oracle v8, among others. Internet and Intranet mail servers are also available to students and faculty round the clock.

Placements
- On successful completion of the program, the Institute facilitates the students in meeting their career aspirations by inviting various companies for campus recruitment. The Institute has a dedicated placement cell, which is in constant touch with the industry and essentially keeps the students informed about the requirements and developments in different industry sectors regarding the career opportunities available. Workshops on career counselling, business etiquette, group discussions and interview skills, verbal and non-verbal communication skills are a regular feature at the Institute. Companies visiting IMNU campus are from IT, Retail, Consulting, Automobile, Marketing Research, KPO/BPO, Manufacturing, Finance, Banking, Insurance sector.

Corporate Interface - IMNU's corporate interface includes a range of planned activities with and within Industry - from guest lectures by senior professionals, case study discussions and development, seminars, and workshops on the one hand, and a 2-month summer internship at an organisation, live field projects, industry visits in India and abroad, and other such training. This helps in bringing them closer to real life situations and management challenges therein, which they learn early before they get on with their jobs and progress in their careers.

Extra Curricular and Co-Curricular Activities - A host of activities are carried out for the students at the Institute. Committees like the Student Advisory Board and Cultural & Social activities are organized regularly for the students to participate better. Besides this, CEO Lectures, Marketing Meet, Industry Visits and other Club Activities are are also carried out. Festivals and occasions are celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm. Also various clubs are held for active student participation amongst each other. Participation of students in Co-Curricular and Extra Curricular Activities is compulsory.

Some of the activities are:

  • Perspective - The Institute organizes an academic conference for the blossoming managers every year, named 'Perspective'. The conference deals with 'perceiving what is beyond the common sight'. Reputed business schools are invited to participate in this conference. Shared learning is enhanced through activities such as paper presentations, business plan contests, business quizzes, book reviews, business cartoon contests and panel discussions.
  • Conclaves - The corporate gurus address the students to initiate them into the emergent mantras of the management world. The two day sessions have been christened “Conclaves”, and are scheduled four times a year. Eminent professionals are invited to share their thoughts and experiences about the buzzing strategies and concepts. It is an interface with the reality that helps students to cope with , and stay ahead of change. Every year, conclaves are held in the disciplines of Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Family Business and Information Technology.
  • Sports - The Institute actively supports sports activities such as Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball and Athletics over its sprawling fields. Apart from this the students can also avail the facilities of a fully featured Gymnasium. The sports committee organises sports meet once a year and different matches and tournaments are held throughout the year on a regular basis. There is an active participation of faculty and staff too.
  • Clubs - The following clubs are currently functioning at the Institute :
  1. Niche (Marketing) - The Marketing Club aims to provide opportunities to the members to develop marketing skills, undertake marketing exercises and meet marketing professionals. The club provides a platform to the members to interact and share knowledge and experience in the field of marketing.
  2. Fine$$e (Finance Club) - The Finance Club provides students with insights on all aspects of international capital markets including venture capital, merchant banking, investment banking, sales and trading, portfolio management, corporate treasury, accounting and commercial banking.
  3. Clique (IT Club) - Clique aims to spread the excitement about the converging worlds of information technology, communications and media industries, create career opportunities and help educate the IM community about the new digital economy.
  4. Imprints (HRM Club) - The purpose of the club is to bring together students interested in the field of Human Resources Management, help them develop interpersonal skills needed in the corporate and encourage them to meet professionals who work in the field of Human Resources Management. This club is designed to help students learn more about Human Resource and what Human Resource Professionals do.
