About Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management - LBSIM

Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), Delhi, is a premier and dynamic Institute in management and information technology education. It was established by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Educational Trust in Delhi. The LBS Institute of Management is dedicated to the memory of India's Second Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. It has widespread support of the corporate world both at national and international levels. The Institute has been consistently ranked among the top 20 Business Schools in the country. The Institute is fully air-conditioned. It is recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India for Two Year Full-Time Post Graduate Diploma in Management(Approved by AICTE and Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA:AICTE), Two Year Full-Time Post Graduate Diploma in Management-Finance(Approved by AICTE), Three year Part-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Working Executives (Approved by AICTE) and Three Year Full-Time Programme in Master of Computer Applications ( Affiliated to GGS Indraprastha University Delhi). The institute boasts of a state of the art academic infrastructure, particularly with reference to its state-of-the-art library and computing facilities. At LBSIM, students are evaluated continuously through seminars, assignments, projects, quizzes etc. A review of students' performance is made every month and corrective action is initiated immediately. The evaluation of the student also incorporates important qualitative parameters like participation in seminars, workshops, group activities and the overall initiative taken by the student.

Location - It is centrally located in the heart of South Delhi in R.K.Puram surrounded by natural environment. Its state of art additional campus located at Dwarka, New Delhi would be ready shortly.

Facilities

Library -  The library acts as the main learning resource centre of the Institute. The Library has acquired a collection of about 24,000 select documents in the form of books/reports, and other non-book materials, in different areas of management and information technology. The Library is currently subscribing to 160 select periodicals in print form and online access to over 3500 periodicals. The library is affiliated to Developing Library Network (DELNET) through which it has access to over 1224 institutions (179 in Delhi, 1029 outside Delhi and 16 Overseas). Library has been subscribing to rich electronic databases like ABI/INFORMS Complete, PROWESS etc. Apart from this Library has institutional membership of two prestigious library located in Delhi, British Council Library and American Centre Library.

Computing Facilities - The Computer Centre is equipped with state of the art hardware and latest software facilities to handle the data processing requirements of the faculty and students. Four servers and more than 135 P-IV nodes are connected via a well structured Ethernet LAN. The whole campus is wi-fi enabled for all its authorized users. Internet and E-mail Facilities are available to Faculty through 2 Mbps Leased line connection. The Digital System Lab is equipped with trainer kits required to conduct experiments on various concepts of digital circuits.

Teaching and Learning Methods - The teaching methodology used at LBSIM is a judicious blend of lectures, seminars, case discussions, group presentations, management games, syndicate discussions and special lectures by professionals from industry. Modern teaching aids such as overhead and LCD projectors, computer aided instructions, films, video and audio tapes are used. The teaching and instructional methods used at the Institute encourage self learning and learning through active student industry interaction in the form of practical assignments and projects.

MDP - Management Development Programmes are conducted for executives at top, middle and senior levels. The course contents are customised as per company requirements which include technical, managerial and soft skills. Some of the courses conducted by MDP include - Two year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Finance etc. Some of the client of MDP's include NTPC, Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki etc.

LBS Research Centre - Lal Bahadur Shastri Research Centre for Public Policy and Social Change (LBSRC) has been established as a 'Centre of Excellence' to facilitate research on social, economic and political issues. LBSRC is operating from the Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial, 1, Moti Lal Nehru Place, New Delhi 110011. Various activities undertaken by the centre are focussed on alleviation of poverty in district of varanasi, implementation of national rural employment guarantee scheme etc.

Corporate Interface - The Institute regularly invites top executives from the corporate world for interaction with the students and faculty on various subjects. It has helped to bring the corporate experience to the classroom, thus bridging the gap between theory and practice. In its endeavour to maintain a vibrant and proactive academic-industry interface, LBSIM students take active part in organizing several mega events. Some of these annual national summits organized by the institute over the years have earned their places in the calendars of corporate as well as academic giants.

LBS Journal of Management & Research - June- December 2007 issue of Volume V of the Institute Journal titled LBS Journal of Management and Research was released. The issue includes research papers on Shifting Paradigms of Corporate Social Responsibility, Managing Human Resources in Global Business Environment and India's Manufacturing Strategy: Global Perspective. It also contains empirical papers on Business Communication Course's taught at B- Schools: Teacher's Perspective and Internet Web- based System for Recruitment and Selection: Case Study of Magnon Solutions, India. A brief summary on select research in progress at LBSIM is a special feature of the issue.

LBS National Award
- Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Delhi instituted the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management in 1998. The honour carries a cash award of Rs. One lakh, a Citation and a Plaque. The awardees are designated as Lal Bahadur Shastri Fellows and their names are inscribed on the roll of honours of the Institute. For the year 2008 Award, Jury chose Shri Sunil Mittal, Chairman and Group CEO, Bharti Enterprises. Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, President of India, conferred the award at a function, organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on December 15, 2009.

Awards and Scholarships - Some of these are:

  • Smt. Lalita Shastri Medal & Scholarship - The Alumni of LBS Institute of Management have instituted an Endowment Fund in the name of Smt. Lalita Shastri for awarding a Medal and Scholarship. This fund has been created by the students of 1996-98 batch, and is being supported by subsequent batches. The Medal is given to a student of Two Year Full-Time PGDM based upon overall performance and the Scholarship is awarded to deserving students on performance-cum-means.
  • Amit Chopra Medal - LBS Institute of Management has created an Endowment Fund in the memory of Late Amit Chopra from the donation by his father for setting up a Medal to be given to a student based on social service during his/her stay at LBSIM. Amit Chopra was the student of Two Year Full-Time PGDM of 1998-2000 and had an untimely sad demise while pursuing his studies at LBSIM.

Faculty Development Programme - The FDP, sponsored by AICTE on New Marketing Paradigms and Global Competitiveness had highlighted the focus areas in marketing and product development, which play a very crucial role for survival and prosperity of organizations. Experienced resource faculties of the FDP discussed new concepts, methods and techniques, theory in different areas of marketing like global marketing and organized retailing, customer relationship management, brand management, rural marketing, new marketing strategies, social marketing. The FDP has enriched the skill sets of young teachers in marketing areas to enable them to keep pace with the changing scenario in the national and international business environments.

International Academic Collaboration - Since its inception the Institute has been assimilating the latest thinking and developments in the areas of Management-both national and International.

On this front the institute has entered into exchange Programmes collaboration with the following Universities/Institutes:

  1. Missouri State University (MSU), Missouri, USA.
  2. New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), USA.
  3. Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) Michigan, USA.
  4. IBM Academic Collaboration.

Tatva - Tatva, the annual cultural festival is organized at the Institute. The events include many meticulously worked out management games-both formal and informal. It also organises special Musical Evenings.

Achievements

  • Two Year Full-Time Post Graduate Diploma in Management stands accredited by AICTE (MHRD, GOI).
  • Two Year Full-Time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Finance) commencing w.e.f. June 2008.
  • Management of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, a Nationally Coordinated Project (NCP) is underway.
  • AICTE has awarded equivalence to MBA for our PGDM (FT), and PGDM (Evening) programs.
