About JCT College of Engineering and Technology

Shri Jagannath Educational Health and Charitable Trust was established by renowned and philanthropic people with an objective of providing education to all especially the down trodden and rural population.

Considering the growing demands for technical education in the country the trust has started an engineering college namely JCT College of Engineering and Technology in Pichanur in Coimbatore for the academic year 2009-10. The College is located at Pichanur at the foothills of the Western Ghats in a serene, eco friendly lush green environment. It is well connected by road, rail and air.

The Management strives hard to enhance the professional knowledge, skills and attitudes of educators, so that they might in turn improve the learning process of students. The college aims at developing a deep understanding of the human values and social concerns among the engineering graduates.

Students will be encouraged to get equipped and sensitized to understand full implications of their decisions, actions and ever inactions. Above all the college will promote Technical Education to meet the requirements of a developing nation in the context of global concern at the threshold of the twenty-first century.

A team of educated, enlightened, experienced technocrats with vision, firmly determined to promote high quality of education will strive to provide every facility for achieving excellence.

Plentiful opportunities for Petrochemical, Petroleum & Food Technology

JCT college of Engineering & Technology was established in the year of 2009-10 with the objective of fulfilling growing demands for technical education in our country. The global needs for petrochemical, petroleum & processed foods are increasing tremendously necessitating the production of well trained engineers.  Realizing the importance of this, our college focuses specifically on Petrochemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Food Technology.

About the Courses

Petrochemical engineering is a specialized branch of Chemical Engineering which deals with the operations of refining and petrochemical technology. The term petrochemical refers to the organic chemicals which are obtained directly or indirectly from crude petroleum. Petroleum engineering is a field of engineering concerned with the activities related to the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas. Food Technology is the application of food science in processing, manufacturing, and preservation of food products.  The food technologists study the chemical, physical and microbiological makeup of the food when it is processed, preserved, packaged and stored.

Roles & Responsibilities of Engineers

The task of the petrochemical engineers is to discover natural sources of oil, extract them from the earth, refine them and make it usable. Petroleum engineering can be divided into two parts, upstream sector and downstream sector. The upstream sector activities include exploration, production and exploitation of oil and natural gases. The downstream sector consist activities such as the refining, marketing and distributing of petroleum products. Refining process is crucial for an oil product as then only it can be used.

Food Technologists apply their knowledge in all stages of food production from raw material harvesting until it reaches the consumer. Food Technologists devise new ways and improve upon the older ones for preserving, conserving and processing food.

Job opportunities

Wide ranges of job offerings are available globally and in our country in the areas of petrochemical, Petroleum and Food Technology. Petrochemical and petroleum engineers mainly have needs in government and private sectors such as refineries, Chemical and plastic industries, petrochemical plants as well as downstream petroleum industries, fertilizer industries and R & D Organizations like ONGC, OIL, ESSAR, RIL, IOCL, BPCL, HPCL Cairn India etc.

Graduates in Food Technology or those who have done food processing courses have vast scope in food processing industries, research laboratories, hotels, soft drink factories, quality control, rice mills, manufacturing industries, and distilleries. The major players in government and private sector in India includes  FCI, DFRL, CFTRI, NIFTEM, ITC, Britannia, Cadbury, Parle, Perfetti, Nestle etc. Public sector undertakings like Food Corporation of India require people to handle purchase, storage, transportation, and distribution of food grains and other processed food items.

JCT College is well equipped with state of art of art learning facilities & laboratories to prepare students in facing real time environments. We have well experienced and dedicated faculty members & modern library facility subscribed with national and international e-books and online journals. The departments of petrochemical, petroleum and Food technology periodically organizes workshop, seminars and symposium on recent technological advancements for enriching students skills. This offers immense scope to the Bright future ahead. Moreover, the Institute’s partnership and linkages with academia and Industry in Petrochemical, Petroleum and Food Processing sector itself would place JCT on a higher pedestal in extending the best placement services.
