About College of Dairy and Food Science Technology

College of Dairy and Food Science Technology, Udaipur is an agricultural engineering institute. It is a constituent institute of the Maharana Pratap University of Agricultural and Technology. The college came into existence in the year 1982 and was known as Dairy Science College. Before that, in 1978 a graduate program of dairy technology was started in the University of Udaipur under the Rajasthan College of Agriculture. The program was pivotal in the establishment of College of Dairy Science, Udaipur. The college was developed in a phased manner, equipped with all the necessary amenities of a college campus. Keeping in mind, the fast development in the processing and packaging industry, the Strategic Development Project of the Rajasthan Agriculture University accepted the suggestions of the college and consequently recommended the widening of the scope the college. Thus from the session 1999-2000, the College was named as College of Dairy & Food Science Technology (CDFST). It had two departments at that time, namely - Dairy & Food Engineering and Dairy & Food Technology along with library, Computer and ARIS lab with classrooms housed in the new building.

CDFST Facilities

Hostel - The College has a hostel comprising 14 double seated rooms which accommodate 24 students. The remaining students are residing in rented rooms close to new campus. The rooms are allotted depending upon their availability and as per norms. A new hostel is under construction as of 2012.

Library - The college library is e-library, where issue, deposition and search of books are made through computers. A special data bank of books has been made, where readers can access books through computer. Its automated system houses over 7828 volumes of science and technical books. In addition, 30 National and International Journals, CDs etc. The library also provides digitized book lending facility using state of the art software. Internet facilities are also available to students in the Library with which one can access electronic journals. Students of the college can also access libraries attached to different colleges of the affiliating university. Some rare books and literature donated by the family of Late Dr. R. S. Rawat, Shri S. K. Bansal, Dr. S. P. Ohri, Shri. B. S. Jerry and Dr. V.B. Singh are also available for consultation.

Internet Facility – Members of the college have been provided internet accessibility. The college has a well-equipped computer lab and there are 30 work stations in the lab.

ATM Facility – ATM Facility has been facilitated by ICICI Bank which is open 24x7. The bank also provides special account to the college students.

NSS & NCC – As a general requirement for the degree for which weightage of one credit hour has been assigned, the students are expected to take active part in at least one of the three activities, viz, National Cadet Corps National Service Scheme and National Sports Organization. They have to do so within 15 days from the date of registration with the institute. Options once selected shall not be changed for the purpose of their assessment at any subsequent stage. Students are advised to attend these activities regularly in 4 semesters. At the end of the Fourth semester the satisfactory and unsatisfactory is communicated to the student section for further needful.

Cafeteria – The Canteen is located inside the campus which remains open on all working days. A committee consisting of staff, students and trustees oversee the functioning of the canteen and its upkeep

Milk Parlour – The College has its own milk parlour which sells dairy and food products manufactured by the college students in the college itself. The Dairy & Food Technology department assists students in manufacturing these products. This practice provides industrial experience and improves working skills of the students.

Extracurricular Activities – The College organizes extracurricular activities, including cultural activities and literary activities. College students also participate in inter college and inter university competitions.

Sports Facilities – The College has its own playgrounds of cricket and volleyball. The college gymnasium also lies in close vicinity. The University Sports Board coordinates and oversees the games and sports activities of the college. More facilities are being planned to introduce.

Admission for Foreign Students – Foreign students are allowed admission if they fulfil certain conditions. They are normally admitted under the category of ICAR nominee

Admission Procedure for Foreign Students

  • Foreign students sponsored / nominated through ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) or any other agencies are eligible.

  • No self-financing foreign student shall be given admission unless their case is supported by the Govt. of India, International organization, respective Govt. and approved by the Govt. of India or Indian Council of Cultural Relations or ICAR.
  • The candidate shall be required to pay institutional economic fee of US $200 per month or $2000 per year per candidate in addition to the normal fees charged by the College / University from Indian students.
  • Foreign students must have valid passport and visa before they can be given admission.
  • They must get themselves registered with the police (C.I.D.) within a fortnight of their arrival.
  • They should also register with the 'Foreign Students' Advisor and S.W.O. of the University.
  • All foreign students must get themselves medically checked by the nearest Civil Surgeon / Supt. of district hospital at their own expenses and the certificate in a particular Performa available from the concerned colleges be submitted before they can be admitted.
  • All foreign students (fresh and returning from abroad) must get themselves screened for the disease AIDS (Acquired Immunity Deficiency Syndrome) at their own cost and submit screening certificate from authorized medical officer before they can be considered for admission to any class. Facilities for AIDS test are available at Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai and other centres.
  • If a student is found unfit due to any disease, other than AIDS, he shall be declared temporarily unfit and can continue studies subjects to university regulations. A student with confirmed AIDS disease will have to return to his country.

Placement Bureau – The University has established a Placement & Information Bureau to guide the students for higher studies in India and abroad and also to guide them for various employment opportunities within the state, outside the state and abroad. The activities of Bureau are coordinated by the Student Welfare Officer and Incharge, College Placement & Information Bureau (PIB). A Foreign Student Advisor is in position in the University for foreign students counselling. Students of the institute undergo Plant Training and have been placed such as Perfetti, Dalmia Consumer Care Ltd., Cadbury India Pvt. Ltd., Pepsi Co India Pvt. Ltd., Mother Dairy etc.

Student Welfare – Student Welfare Officer (SWO) assisted by Assistant Dean Student Welfare (ADSW) look after the welfare of the students. ADSW is overall incharge of the students of the institution in matter of discipline, co-curricular activities & general behaviour.
