About Mudra Institute of Communications - MICA

Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad was started in 1991. MICA is an autonomous non-profit management education institution. Mudra Foundation for Communications Research & Education is registered as a Society and Trust. MICA has set a precedent as the first residential academic institution in the country and perhaps in the Asia-Pacific region wholly dedicated to meeting the needs of the integrated marketing communications industry. MICA complements the role that management education plays in modernizing and professionalizing communications-driven businesses. Today, it is the Alma mater of professionals who are serving in the marketing, marketing research, advertising and media sectors, and emerging communications-driven businesses such as broadcasting, retail and design communication, and public relations and event and entertainment management. The single, most important aspect that makes MICA stand apart from the other management schools in the country is the strength and design of its curriculum. The courses are structured and taught with the intention of creating communications management specialists who are able to understand the multiple requirements of business, specifically of those organizations that are communications-driven in realizing their business strategy and effectiveness.

Institute Centres

Centre for Research in Media - It is based on the multifarious aspects of media and their interactions with culture, society, economy and polity by encouraging systematic interdisciplinary research, and thus building up a repository of both curricular and scholarly resources on global media systems and processes. 

Centre for Development Communications - The Centre undertakes research projects and training programmes for the Government of India, various Indian State governments and International agencies in the areas of development communication, health communication, watershed management, climate change and disaster communication, and water and sanitation communication.

MICA-EDC - Entrepreneurship Development Centre is an initiative of MICA, set up with the support of Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. MICA –EDC originated with the purpose of fostering entrepreneurship in the communications driven initiatives, promoting corporate entrepreneurship in the communications industry. MICA-EDC is a centre of excellence of MICA, which conducts post graduate programmes in the area of communications management.

MDC - Management Development Centre provides the corporate sector various services like consulting services, career development programmes, professional development programmes, in-company executive development programmes, seminars and conferences on emerging issues and opportunities in industry. 

Centre for Integrated Marketing - Centre for Integrated Marketing at MICA enhances the awareness and usage of the concepts of integrated marketing via communications, research, workshops, management development programmes and consultancy amongst students, academicians and practitioners and demonstrate the advantages associated with integrated marketing as an effective and efficient marketing/business strategy. 

KEIC - Knowledge Exchange and Information Centre extends information-support to the marketing communications industry specifically in areas of decision-making, strategy, understanding markets and making new business connections. Organisations like Ambience, Bates Clarion, Blackstone Market Facts India, Blowplast Ltd., BPL Mobile Cellular Ltd. etc. avail the KEIC information services.

Location - MICA is located on the outskirts of the city of Ahmedabad.

Transportation - Ahmedabad city is connected by air, rail and road to all major Indian cities. From both the airport and the railway station public transport such as taxis and automated rickshaws can be used to reach MICA

  • Ahmedabad has an international airport - www.ahmedabadairport.com - connecting it directly to international destinations like London, Los Angeles, Dubai, Paris, Chicago, Sharjah and Singapore.
  • There are also a number of daily flights by various airline operators connecting Ahmedabad to the major metros of the country like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Calcutta, Pune and Delhi.

Facilities

International students - International students need to return a completed application form (US$35, non-refundable) along with original or attested copies of all academic qualifications and documents well in advance. If these are not in English, official translations will have to be obtained. Candidates with GMAT scores of 600 and above are considered for admission. In the recent past candidates admitted to MICA have had GMAT scores in the region of 650. Students whose primary education has not been in the English language will need to take either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to demonstrate proficiency with the English language (For further information on this, visit www.ielts.org or www.toefl.org). As with all international visitors to India, visa requirements will have to be complied with (For more information on this visit www.indianembassy.org). MICA will support students in complying with visa requirements by sending students formal admission letters and a copy of the Government of India's official recognition of MICA as an institution approved by the All India Council of Technical Education. Students will also need the mandatory medical clearance before. 

Academic Associates - They include:

  • Hughes Communications India Limited - MICA’s real time education delivery works in partnership with a global online education organization Direcway Global Education. Essentially these franchises are computer labs which are connected through a central server to a Virtual Private Network (VPN) with the institute. 
  • Sage Publications - Sage Publications and MICA collaborate to bring out the ‘Journal of Creative Communications.’ The journal promotes inquiry into contemporary communication issues within wider social, economic and technological contexts and provides a forum for the discussion of theoretical and practical insights emerging from such inquiry. Journal of Creative Communications is available electronically on SAGE Journals Online at http://crc.sagepub.com

Student Research - Research carried out by students as part of their academic requirements. 

Journal - Journal of Creative Communications is designed to promote inquiry into contemporary communication issues within wider social, economic and technological contexts and provides a forum for the discussion of theoretical and practical insights emerging from such inquiry.

Seminars and Conferences - Various Seminars and Conferences are conducted throughout the year. 

Placements - MICA has always maintained industry interactions across various activities like training, consultancy and joint research through student bodies such as MICAMINDS, MICANVAS and MICA Lecture Series, thereby contributing to the learnings in the Post Graduate Diploma Programme. 

MICANVAS - It is MICA’s annual brand management festival. It is a platform to bring together eminent professionals from the industry and the best brains from the top B-schools in India to challenge conventional stereotypes about consumer’s mind space and redefine newer ones in the dynamic marketing millennium. 

MLS - MICA Lecture Series is a student initiative started with the sole purpose of bringing the best minds from industry to campus. In the past, MLS has invited doyens from across various industries and sectors to grace the institute. They have imparted sharp insights, clarified concepts and brought a whole new perspective to the way in which we approach and perceive the world. 

MICAMINDS - It is the student consultancy wing of MICA. Students undertake live industry projects involving research and execute them under the guidance of faculty. MICAMINDS ideates solutions for the future. It delivers on client business objectives by channelizing this power of ideating futures. The aim is to provide fresh perspectives and customized solutions. 

Sankalp - Sankalp is the theatre club at MICA. Apart from innumerable in-house plays, there’s one grand play every year performed for the paying public.

MICAVAANI - It is the community radio station of the institute. The station was launched by a team of students from various programmes at MICA, under the guidance of Prof. Ravi Dixit, the faculty member responsible for the setting up and functioning of MICAVAANI.  Students also put together the creative input, even creating the jingle, ‘Tamara Bol, Tamari Vaani’ inhouse. 

International collaborations - MICA has international collaborations with various foreign universities.

Hostel - There are total 332 Rooms with Internet Facilities in International Hostel Rooms with Ac And self service area and Gymnasium.

Digital Communications Centre - Facilities include Community Radio Station, I Mac Lab, Publication Centre and On Line Studio.

Seminar Halls - These are facilitated with Wi Fi Network Connection and Audio-Video recording system including VCD / DVD Players.

Achievements

  • In 2005, MICA was recognized as the best sectoral business management school in the country (Outlook).
  • In 2005, average placement salary was over Rs. 5 Lakhs per annum with almost 2 jobs per student.
  • MICA is also a Fulbright Affiliate Institute as well as an approved and accredited partner of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.
