Bishamber Sahai Institute of Technology (BSIT) is an engineering institute established by Roop Chand Sharma Education Trust, Roorkee. The trust was formed in the year 2003 by Late Pandit Roop Chand Sharma who was a Philanthropist. The institute is a tribute to Late Pandit Bishamber Sahai who was father of Roop Chand Sharma. Mr. Sahai wanted to establish an institute of higher education and a charitable institution at Roorkee. He wished to provide the best engineering education and opportunity for all in order to uplift the society.  Mr. Sharma established the society to fulfil his father’s wishes. The institute is one of the constituent institutes of B. S. Group of institutes, named after Mr. Sahai. The main objective of BSIT is to provide technical education to the rural area students. BSIT is affiliated to Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun. All courses provided by it are approved by AICTE and are recognized by Uttarakhand State Government. It is also affiliated to Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University. BSIT Roorkee offers under-graduate and post-graduate programmes in several streams of engineering, IT and management.

Location – Roorkee is situated at about 180 km north of Delhi on Delhi-Mana National highway No. 58.

Transportation - Roorkee is well connected by road, rail and air with all parts of the country.

• Air - The nearest airport is Indira Gandhi Airport, New Delhi which is about 175 Kms. away from the campus. Jolly Grant is another domestic airport which is situated at about 60 Kms.  from Roorkee. The distance in time is less than one and a half hour.
• Train – Roorkee is well connected by Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi Express, from Delhi. Dehradun Tamil Nadu Express from South, Chandigarh-Lucknow, from Lucknow route and Sialdah Express from West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir. The distance of Roorkee Railway Station to BSI Institute Campus is 7 Kms.
• Bus - The bus service from Delhi to Roorkee takes about five hours and the frequency is fifteen minutes. From Delhi you may take the Delhi-Mana National Highway No. 58. From Uttaranchal you can take the same highway. The distance of Roorkee Bus Stand to BSIT Institute Campus is 7 Kms.

Facilities

Hostel – The institute provides limited hostel facilities. The candidates are provided Bed, Chair, Table and Almirah only (2012). Anything needed apart from these has to be arranged by the candidates themselves. The candidates will be provided breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner according to the schedule as fixed by the hostel warden. The hostel fee is not refundable in any case.

Laboratories – BSIT has various laboratories which provide training to the students.

Some of the Laboratories:

• Electronics and Digital Laboratory – The laboratory is spread over an area of 150 square meters. It is well equipped with CRO; AD Converters; DA Converters, Function Generators, Half-adder and half subtractor etc.
• Electrical Machine and Instrumentation Laboratory – The laboratory is equipped with variety of trainer kits and machines for performing requisite experiments namely Verification of network theorems; Study of series and parallel resonance condition by RLC Kit etc. Practicals related to all the instruments used in electrical engineering are performed out according to syllabus, like working of whetstone bridge, transducer, testing of accuracy of instruments.
• Mechanical Workshop – It is equipped with machine tools and gadgets of carpentry, foundry, fitting metal joining and machine shop. Lathe and shaper machines, Gas Welding and Arc welding set-ups are in the workshop. This workshop trains the students to deal with various aspects of raw material, measurement and processes leading to its conversion of raw material to usable product.
• Computer and Internet Laboratory – The laboratory has 120 computers (as of 2012). The computer laboratory is connected to the internet. The students have their own internet accounts and can access information as per their need. The internet facility is available to the students throughout the day.

Placement Cell – BSIT has an active Placement and Corporate Interaction Cell. The placement cell consists of faculty from each stream of Engineering, MBA and B.Tech. It provides summer placements and final placement to all the students. The senior faculty members guide the entire placement team. The training is offered in coalition with all the leading corporate houses, R&D organizations, public sector undertakings and private sector MNC’s. Candidates are continuously exposed to group discussions and seminars to help in facing interviews. The institute arranges for lectures from renowned personalities, industrialists and experts from business management groups. This helps the students in gaining proficiency in communication skills. Along with it mock interviews are also conducted regularly.
