About the Institute
O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) is a non-profit university established by the Haryana Private Universities (Second Amendment) Act, 2009 at Sonipat, Haryana (NCR of Delhi). Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), India’s first global law school is situated on a 60-acre residential JGU campus. JGU and JGLS are recognised both by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC). The vision of JGU is to promote global programmes, global curriculum, global research, global collaborations, and global interaction through a global faculty.
JGLS is offering a specially designed, fully accredited two year full-time LL.M. programme for students seeking a world class post-graduate education in law. Three options for specialisation exist: Corporate and Financial Law, International Trade Law and Intellectual Property Rights. In the LL.M. programme, the students will be free to choose from a variety of electives in addition to the required courses. The LL.M. students will also have the option of choosing appropriate courses from Jindal Global Business School (JGBS) and the Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA). The JGLS LL.M. programme is extremely rigorous, requiring students to produce at least one scholarly piece of writing during the course of their study. JGLS faculty has a strong research orientation and LL.M. students are expected to contribute to faculty and research centre projects. The LL.M. programme is developed to integrate Indian and international perspectives, emphasizing comparative and transnational approach in research. It aims to equip students with skills for global research to enable them to adapt, innovate and apply their knowledge to global legal issues.
Distinctive Features of the JGLS LL.M. Programme
As the most advanced degree offered at JGLS, the LL.M. programme is designed to represent outstanding academic achievement. The intensive curriculum provides a large number of electives on contemporary topics in its three international and business-oriented streams. The courses and curriculum reflect the contemporary needs of a rapidly changing global legal profession. The courses offer a balance of domestic, international, and comparative law perspectives. While the fulfillment of academic credits is the basis for the completion of the programme, there will also be a mandatory research
Global Orientation
JGLS has been founded on the idea that education should be global in nature. The curriculum will equip students to thrive within a global context. Comparative perspectives in the fields of corporate and financial law, trade law and intellectual property rights will be component giving an opportunity to students to write on topics of contemporary legal significance. To meet the requirements of our programme, the independent research paper must be of publishable quality. Students will be supervised by a staff member and provided the necessary help to publish his/her independent research.

In the LL.M. programme, the full-time faculty will be supplemented by visiting faculty and experts drawn from academia and leading law firms in India and abroad.

Teaching Pedagogy
JGLS teaching pedagogy will be based on the assumption that students pursuing an LL.M. degree have a strong academic background and basic understanding of their specialty area. Many of its courses will be taught by both leading scholars and accomplished international and domestic practitioners. JGLS’s LL.M. batch is designed to be a small group of students to ensure high faculty-student ratio and better interactive learning atmosphere. In addition to their course work, students will be given an opportunity to participate in a clinical programme which will be established in conjunction with Jindal Global Business School (JGBS).
International Collaborations
JGLS has developed partnerships with leading law schools worldwide. These include collaborations with Yale Law School, Harvard Law School, University of Michigan Law School,Cornell Law School, Indiana University Maurer School of Law, University of Cambridge, Osgoode Hall Law School, Queen’s University School of Law, Australian National University and Tokiwa University among others. The collaborations include MoU’s that establish student and faculty exchange opportunities, conferences, joint research and other joint educational initiatives. JGLS continues to build collaborations with institutions in Brazil, Europe, South Africa, and other areas of the world in an effort to build an unparalleled network for student exchange and research learning.
Career Development
The JGLS LL.M programme offers global professional opportunities to the students. JGLS has established a Career Development and Placement Division with a view to providing career opportunities to students and graduates of JGLS. JGLS has signed Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) with a number of reputed Indian law firms including Amar chand & Mangal das & Suresh A Shroff & Co., AZB & Partners, Fox Mandal Little, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, and Nishith Desai Associates to develop knowledge based partnerships and interaction with law firms and to facilitate internships and placements for JGLS students and graduates. JGLS is also developing collaborations with a number of other law firms including Economic Laws Practice, Khaitan & Co., and Trilegal.
Scholarships, Fellowships and Fee Concessions
JGLS recognizes the fact that affording quality higher education in law may not be easy for many prospective students. The school is therefore committed to selecting students for a substantial number of scholarships in various forms, both on merit and need basis.
O.P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarship:
Selected LL.M. students will be awarded the O.P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarship of Rs. 1 lakh based on their performance in the LSAT- India admission test.
Naveen Jindal Young Global Scholarship:
The aim of this scholarship is to encourage and support young global leaders. One student from LL.M. programme will be awarded this scholarship on the basis of an independent Selection process. A scholarship of Rs.5 lakh will be awarded to the recipient of this scholarship.
Shallu Jindal Outstanding WomenScholarship:
The aim of this scholarship is to nurture and support outstanding women student from, among others, the LL.M. programme. Scholarship of Rs. 2 lakh will be awarded to each recipient on the basis of an independent selection process.
Savitri Jindal Studentship/ Graduate Assistantships:
Savitri Jindal Studentships or Graduate Assistantships are awarded to further reduce the financial burden of students. The aim of the studentship or graduate assistantship is to encourage students to help faculty during University-organized seminars, workshops and international conferences, as well as to help faculty in research work, research centre activities, and in tutorial sessions as required.
Fee Concession:
Students who qualify under Haryana domicile category may be eligible for full or partial scholarships.
Other Scholarships:
JGLS often attracts law firms and corporate houses to donate purpose specific scholarships. For example, Khaitan and Co. offered a 100% tuition fee scholarship to the student who topped LL.M. entrance test in 2010. Scholarships are given on the basis of LSAT ranking. JGU has established tie-ups with HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Punjab National Bank (PNB) to facilitate education loans to students who are admitted to JGU.
How to Apply
LSAT-India Admission Test
Students for admission to the two year LL.M. programme at JGLS will be selected on merit, i.e. their Performance in the Law School Admission Test-India (LSAT-India). LSAT-India is an entrance test designed by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), USA and is conducted by Pearson VUE, LSAC’s affiliate in India. The test will be in a multiple choice format and will cover logical reasoning, analytical reasoning and reading comprehension. A sample test is available on the LSAT-India website.
