About National Institute of Technology - NIT Mizoram

National Institute of Technology, Mizoram (NIT, Mizoram or NITMZ) is an Institute specialising in Technical Education. It is amongst the 30 NIT’s set up across different parts of India. It is one amongst the 10 new NITs to be setup as per the order of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government. NIT Mizoram was started in the year 2010 to impart education, research and training. The institute has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. Here the students are admitted through All India Entrance Exam- Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Main). NITMZ is functioning in a temporary campus in the city of Aizawl. It comprises of 1 Administrative Block and 4 Academic Blocks at Chaltlang, 3 Hostel Blocks at Tanhril and 1 Hostel Block at Zemabawk. The permanent campus is proposed to be located at Lengpui, Aizawl district. The total demarcated land area is 190.35 acre (770319.12 sqm).

How to reach Aizawl

By Air - Aizawl can be reached by Air through Kolkata / Guwahati. The NIT Mizoram is approximately 35 Km far from Lengpui (Aizawl) Airport. Pre-paid Taxis are easily available from the Airport to reach the Institute.           

By Train - Silchar is the nearest railway station to Aizawl. The journey (by road) from Silchar to Aizawl may take apprx. 6 Hrs. Taxis are available from Mizoram Circuit House, Sonai Road, Silchar.          

By Bus or Taxi – Private buses from Guwahati to Aizawl are available from Guwahati. Booking Counters for these buses are located at Paltan Bazar. The journey to Aizawl by Bus is approximately 24 hours. Private taxis are available from Mizoram House, Christian Basti G S Road, Guwahati (Evening). The journey to Aizawl by taxi is approximately 20 Hours. Taxis from Silchar to Aizawl are available from Mizoram Circuit House, Sonai Road, Silchar.

Facilities at NITMZ

Hostels – NIT, Mizoram provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls. There are 3 boy’s hostels and 1 girl’s hostel. Some of the hostel facilities include Generator for power backup, TV, Sports facilities, Gym, Mess and various others.

Library - The central library has a collection of more than 7000 educational books which are as per the course requirement of the various semesters of different departments. The library has subscribed to various eJournals, newspapers and magazines. It also has a collection of textbooks and references. It also has access to e-books particularly from Tata McGraw Hills and Elsevier. These purchased e-books are accessible on and off the campus. The fraternity of NIT Mizoram can access these e-books anytime and anywhere.

Minority Scholarship

30% Scholarship are earmarked for for girls students Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist and Parsi Category meritorious students should have not secured not less than 50% marks in the previous final examination.
Not more than two students from a familyScholarship allocation to States/UTs on the basis of population of minorities.
The scheme is implemented through the state Govt. /UT administration.

National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation

Students should have not less than 50% marks at higher secondary/graduation level.
The total family income of the student from all sources should not exceed Rs. 3.00 lakh per annum.

North Eastern Scholarship

 

The stipends and book grants are open only to a candidate who is a permanent resident of any of the states in North East.
The maximum marks for the grant of stipend should be 75% for General/OBC/MOBC and 60% for SC/ST candidates in the relevant qualifying examination for Diploma, Degree and Post Graduate courses.

Transportation Facility - The institute has 7 buses for transporting the students staying in the hostels. These buses have been deputed to bring the students to and fro the hostel to the institution everyday and drop them back to the hostel.

Emergency Facility – The institute has two emergency vans for 24 hours and 7 days a week which are permanently deputed in the hostels along with a driver.
