Held on 2nd Thursday of November

Quality Means - an essential and distinguishing attribute of something or someone. The term quality is everywhere, in all aspects of life. For organisations, however, deploying quality approaches is a prerequisite for creating a sustainable business. The tragedy of poor Quality in a universal sense, is that it is the consumers, shareholders and other stakeholders who pay the costs of the Poor Quality. With Poor Quality costs companies have to pass the costs on to consumers. When the companies can no longer compete, they lay off employees, the most important resource. Share prices fall or do not meet expectations and investors sell—at a loss. Consumers world over must rise to the occasion to call attention to the problems.

World Quality Day is therefore, a day to celebrate achievements and raise awareness of how quality, systems and process approach can make a resounding impact on human life. The World Quality Day was initiated by the Quality Organizations of Europe (EOQ), USA (ASQC) and Japan (JUSE) in 1989 and was appointed to be the second Thursday of November every year. It was first promulgated by the United Nations in 1990 to raise international awareness of the important role quality plays in ensuring nations' prosperity. The purpose of World Quality Day is to promote awareness of quality around the world and to encourage individuals' and organisations' growth and prosperity. In a global economy where success depends on quality, innovation and sustainability, World Quality Day is a chance to reinforce these as the foundations of our organisation and focus on the importance of quality. Quality Management Associations world-wide celebrate World Quality day in independent or networked events. While most people think of quality in terms of manufactured products, the Information Age has created a new frontier for Quality—Information, the critical and differentiating resource for organizations to operate effectively and efficiently in today’s information economy. This day calls for every worker and every manager in organizations to concentrate on the quality of information in their workplace and within their span of control.
