Rongchu Gala is a north east Indian festival celebrated especially in one of the northeastern states of India i.e. Megahalaya. It is largely specific to Garo tribal people who live in northeast India and neighbouring regions. Rongchu Gala is composed of two words i.e. Rongchu and Gala. Rongchu stands for ‘flattened rice’ and Gala means ‘throw’ or ‘offer’. Rongchu Gala practice is actually a ritualistic offering in which the flattened rice is thrown into the river or a spring during the early morning. The festival is losing its importance due to modernization and growing Christianity among the local people.
