All-India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) scheduled to be held nationwide on in May, 2012 will go online. This is part of the Central Board of Secondary Examination's efforts to upgrade the examination system by making the process less cumbersome.
Though the online mode was an option this year as well, but a majority of students opted for the conventional mode. Despite the lukewarm response, the board has decided to shun the conventional pen and paper format and go ahead with the online mode in wake of this year’s question paper leak which forced several students to take the exam again.
AIEEE is the admission gateway to various NITS, deemed universities, state owned and private engineering/architecture colleges. The AIEEE conducted in 2011 was delayed by three hours due to a paper leak in Lucknow on May 1. A fresh exam was conducted on May 11 for all those students who were unable to appear earlier.
The CBSE will conduct the online examination from May 7 to 25 in 22 cities: Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Chandigarh (Mohali/Panchkula), Delhi/NCR (except Faridabad), Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Ernakulum, Trivandrum, Bhopal, Mumbai, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Chennai, Dehra Dun, Lucknow, Noida, Kolkata, Allahabad, Bhubaneswar, Kota and Nagpur. “In these cities, the examination will only be in an online mode,”
“It will be a Computer Based Test (CBT), just like the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted for admissions in management institutes,” the official said, adding that a competent agency will be engaged to ensure smooth conduct of the online test.
The offline examination will be held on April 29 at the remaining 68 centres across the country.
Students taking the online examination will be given a concession of Rs.150-300 in fees. A mock test software will be uploaded on the CBSE website in December to enable students to acquaint themselves with the online examination, a CBSE release said here on Tuesday.
The CBSE has decided to accept applications only in online mode and no physical form will be sold. This is to ensure availability of forms through the CBSE/AIEEE website. The examination fee will be accepted through credit/debit cards or demand drafts. For filling online applications, a facilitation centre will be opened in every city from where physical forms were sold in the past.
The candidates who wish to appear for online examination will be given an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the online examination. A mock test software will be uploaded on CBSE website later in December this year in order to give examinees an opportunity to understand and practice the new system.
Since it is going to get accomplished via online, the students have to finish the sections on time, i.e. a student has to complete the chemistry section in the question paper within the allotted time, if not could end up in losing some questions in the sections.
The new scheme of AIEEE would enable the students to see their scores immediately after the examination. In that way, the students could be relaxed and hence there would not be any tension waiting for the results.
