Andhra Pradesh will soon have a Sports University, the first of its kind in the country.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, a former cricketer, at a review meeting on development of sports infrastructure in the state today, directed the Sports Department to start with the proposal for setting up the university.
A press release from the Chief Minister's Office said the university would have all sports disciplines and also sports medicine in its curricula.
The chief minister also directed the officials to take up construction of one sports stadium in each of the 294 assembly constituencies across the state.
The government has also accorded administrative sanction for 87 new greenfield sports stadia-cum-cultural centres, in addition to the 30 ongoing stadia works, at a total cost of Rs 288.23 crore, the release added.
