Common entrance test (CET) for professional courses will be held according to state syllabus.
Clarifying all confusions, the state government on Friday maintained that entrance for engineering courses will be held according to state syllabus as the national curriculum for II PUC has been implemented only from 2012-13 academic year.
Higher education minister CT Ravi said the decision on entrance test for medical courses would be taken after Supreme Court's outcome on the subject on February 5. The Centre has asked all the states to follow - national eligibility entrance test (NEET) -- common entrance test for medicine courses across the country. However, some states have questioned the move and the apex court is expected to pronounce judgment next week.
Similarly, the Centre has proposed -- common eligibility entrance (CEE) -- single common entrance test for engineering course across the country. However, states like Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh have implemented national curriculum syllabus only this year. "The first batch of new syllabus will emerge only in 2014. So the state can implement CEE only from academic year," Ravi said.
