Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, which started its journey in 1963 with 20 residential schools, not only entered its Golden Jubilee year, but also got a new logo at the start of the year-long celebrations on Wednesday.

KVS was set up in 1963, and at present it runs 1,090 schools across India catering to over 11 lakh students and has around 54,000 staffs. KVs has recorded 99.38 pass percentages in CBSE class X exams and 94.14 pass percentage in CBSE class XII boards in 2012.

The new logo unveiled has been designed by National Institute of Design, Ahmadabad. The elements presented in log are a rising sun, books (depicted in a manner giving an impression of flying birds). The books bear the same color sequence of the National Flag.

Minister for HRD, Pallam Raju, in his address said that the 250 model schools to be set up in the 12th five year plan under PPP mode will be like the KVs. "KVs are the best day schooling system in the country in terms of results and best government schooling system under school education system. HRD has nominated KVS as the Model School Organization for the 2,500 model schools to be set up under the PPP mode."
