Over 14 lakh took first JEE (Main) 2013

Around 14 lakh students across the country took the written test, an increase by more than 25% as compared to last year. The exam was held in 77 cities across the country and four abroad. The online exam will follow on April 9, 22, 23 and 25.

This is the first time, a joint exam is being held for both IIT and NIT. It is also the first time where marks of board exams will also play a key role in the admission process. Board exams scores and JEE scores will get will be given 40% and 60% weightage respectively.

Only the top 1.5lakh students who write the JEE (main) will be able to write the JEE (advance).

The test paper had 90 questions for 360 marks. Each subject - physics, chemistry and mathematics - carried 30 objective type questions. Each question carried four marks for correct response and a negative mark for a wrong answer. Physics and mathematics also had 'assertion and reasoning' type of questions.
