A career in defence and Paramilitary services has always been a dream of a young child. It is because of the high respect and esteem attached to this profession. The respect that this job still commands can be gauged from the faces and pride of the young children standing on roadsides waving hands to the moving troops and saying goodbye to hovering MIGS above overheads every now and then. This is the only service that the young generation still wants to join already knowing the high risk evolved and tough 24 hours job in inhuman conditions. There might be something special in this job that the incumbent think joining it without giving much consideration to the pay package. Yes, there is something in it, it is the sense of pride and being elite in the defence uniform. Every defence personnel, in whatever capacity feel pride in wearing that uniform with a sense of responsibility of being a guard to the life of his countrymen. This sense of pride is enough for him to carry on his duties in the toughest of conditions unflinchingly. Considering the tough conditions in which defence forces have to work, the Government of the country tries its best to give every possible facility to defence personnel so that they can work for their country leaving worries about their families on the Government of the state. They are provided with subsidies for education, housing, ration, medical and other facilities by the government. Thus a career in Defence and Paramilitary Services is a better option for the young and energetic generation who wants to serve their nation along with earning their lively hood.
A fit, young and energetic youth can join any of the three i.e., Army/ Military, Air Force, and Naval services in various capacities according to his qualification and abilities. Like in Military Services, a person can join as a Rifle Men or as a Junior Commissioned Officer or he can join as an officer on the rank of Lieutenant and rise up to the rank of Army General and be nominated as Chief of the Army Staff one day. As far as Air Force is concerned one can opt for flying and Ground duty services as per one desire and priorities. Similarly, one can join Paramilitary services that work in subordination to the Defence services in the protection of the country from outside threats and help the police services to maintain internal law and order as and when required. One can join some of these services like BSF, GREF, ITBP etc as a constable at the lower level and as Deputy Commandant at the Officers level. However, some of the services also induct personnel at the middle level at the rank of ASI etc.
Recruitment for these posts is done by Various Central Government agencies like UPSC, SSC etc by an unbiased recruitment process test involving physical, personality and the written test of the rigorous required training at various training centres. Any Indian National who has the capacity to work hard and a sense of Nationality and zeal to serve the country can take various tests taken by the various central agencies and adopt these services as their career. Although he might get the pay packages to be available in the private sector it is sure that the facilities and respect that one is going to get in these services cannot be compensated with any form of physical or economical gratification provided in the city by any of the organization.
