A lawyer is a wide term that refers to legal experts. A lawyer is a person who has received legal training. A lawyer is somebody who has finished law school or has an LLB degree. In a court of law, a lawyer cannot represent a client. He can only serve as a legal consultant or policy adviser, and he cannot provide legal advice.

An advocate, on the other hand, is a specialized individual. He represents clients in legal proceedings (pleads on behalf of them, and defends them in court). To become an advocate, one must first join a Bar Council.

Advocates, attorneys, attorneys at law, barristers, counsel, counselors, Juris Doctors, lawyers, legal professionals, members of the bar, practitioners, professionals, solicitors, and so on are all examples of legal practitioners.
