Amateur Athletic Federation of India (AAFI) was formed in 1946. At present it is known as AFI or Athletics Federation of India. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860.
It was formed at the initiative of Maharaja Yadvindra Singh, the then President of Indian Olympic Association with Prof. G.D. Sondhi as its first President.
