Lord Ganesh is known as the ‘Lord of Beginnings’ (Vighnesha) and ‘Lord of Obstacles’ (Vighneshvara). He is known as such because he helps the noble people by blessing them with good fortune whilst making a new beginning. But at the same time he puts obstacles in the path of those who are evil in order to stop them and make them realise their sins.
