New Guinea Frog or Paedophryne amauensis is the 'Smallest Amphibian' in the World. It is 7.7 mm (0.30 in) in length making it the World's Smallest known Vertebrate as well. It is so small that there is empty space even if it sits on a dime. It is found in Papua New Guinea and was discovered in August 2009 but formally described in January 2012.
The other two contenders for this record were the smallest before the Paedophryne amauensis. At 9.6 to 9.8 millimetres (3/8 inches) long, the 'Monte Iberia Eleuth' (Eleutherodactylus iberia) and the 'Brazilian Gold Frog' (Brachycephalus didactylus) are amongst the smallest frog, amphibian, or tetrapod.
