Alfred Carlton Gilbert, an American inventor, toy-maker and businessman is known as 'The Man who saved Christmas'. He was given this title by the press. During 1918, at the time of World War I, U.S. government and the Council of National Defense decided to ban toy production. It considered war as a national priority and as such all efforts should be focussed on factory production to support the war effort. However, Gilbert, convinced the concerned to lift that ban, as toys were source of inspiration for children to become engineers and architects.
