SGS Khalsa Senior Secondary School - Khalsa Anandpur Sahib

SGS (Sodhi Gurbachan Singh) Khalsa Senior Sec. School was functioning under the name of “Sikh Anglo Vernacular School” since1894. The School was established in 1921 by Mata Raj Dai in the memory of her son, Sodhi Gurbachan Singh, who had died at a very young age. The entire property of the family was donated to the school for promotion of education. Many students have reached the position of IAS, IPS, Judge and national level players and serving the Society in different ways including the names of S. Harbans Singh Atwal, IAS (Retd.), Ex. Deputy Commissioner Himachal Pradesh, S. Gurcharan Singh, IAS (Retd.) Ex. Chief Secretary to Rajsthan Govt.,  S. Tara Singh, Deputy Director, Rail Coach Delhi, S. Surinder Singh Giani, PCS (Retd.), EX. President, School Managing Committee, S. Mohinder Singh, Income Tax Commissioner (Retd.), S. Avtar Singh warda, Chief Judicial Magistrate (Present), Hoshiarpur S. Dharam Singh, Distt. Edu. Officer (Sr. Sec.) Roop Nagar, Ex. Deputy Director (Schools), Punjab S.Swaran Singh, Distt. Edu (Retd.,) They have brought laurels for the school.

The old building of the school  comprising of 20 rooms, including the President  Room, Principal's office, a library, NCC office and Sports office, etc. has become very old dilapidated and a new building having 36 spacious rooms including Principal office, a library, laboratories, NCC , Sports, NSS rooms and a Gurdwara is under construction. The work of construction has been undertaken by Sant Baba Labh Singh Ji Karsewa Wale. The ground floor of the building has been completed and the remaining construction is in full swing.

The school, affiliated to the Punjab School Education Board Mohali, is imparting education up to XII Std. We have started commerce group in 10+1from the present session. We have introduced Science stream from the session 2005-06. Open school system started by PSEB, Mohali for the drop out student for both 10th & 12th Class. The total number of students on its rolls is 850. There are 41 members of the Teaching & Non-teaching staff, including the Principal, who are fully qualified and trained. Twenty Six Staff members out of these have been appointed from the P.T.A. fund inspite of our limitations. The school is Government aided to the extent of 95% of the total Expenditure, Salaries of the regular staff from its own resource.

Co-curricular activities form an integral part of the school curricular. The students actively participate in debates, poetic recitation, Shabad Gayan and other activities. Equal emphasis is laid on the teaching of Sikh history, Sikh Cultures, traditions and heritage.

The school had spacious grounds and a stadium where facilities for hockey, football, volleyball and other games and sports have been provided. A four hundred meters track is also in the school. Our school gets many state positions every year in sports and academic.

The school alumni have brought laurels to the school by occupying high positions in the army and civil services. They have made a name in various other fields as well. In the Guidance of Honorable S. Iqbal Singh Lalpura, IPS (Retd.), president and administrator of the school, special efforts are being made to enable the students to face the World wide challenges by acquiring international level of education. To fulfil this aim we have got assurance from S. Harmeet Singh Bedi, Head of Planning Development, University of Georgia, USA, S. Mohinder Singh Gill, Olumpian, USA, Mrs. Jasmine Kaur Nijhar, Assistant Head Teacher, Govt. School, New York, S. Gurbachan Jagat, Ex. Governor, ManiPur, S. Narinderpal Singh Aulakh, Ex. DGP, Punjab for the cooperation in all the spheres of life. In this school we have started from the very beginning to conduct discipline, moral education and sports for all round development of the students by using the modern techniques like USA laurels. Mr. Gurdeep Singh and Mr. Navpreet Singh Sahni are the member in charges of the existing school committee.
