Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya was established on 1st November, 1978. Earlier it was known as Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya. It is an Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) accredited and ISO 9001:2000 certified institution. The College of Agriculture (established in May, 1966) formed the nucleus of new farm University. The University has Four Constituent Colleges which offer four Bachelor Degree programmes and the Dean, Post Graduate Studies offers 29 Masters Degree & 16 Doctoral Degree programmes. It is a Non-affiliating University and is recognised by U.G.C Under Section 12B of the UGC Act, 1978. It is spread over a total land area of 1488.10 acres.

Location - The University is situated at Palampur at an elevation of 1250 metres. The university is located 2 km from Palampur on Pathankot-Mandi National Highway (NH- 20). Palampur is well connected from Delhi, Pathankot, Jammu and Chandigarh by road. Nearest railway station is at Pathankot from where taxi, train (narrow gauge) and bus service is available. It is near Pathankot railhead (further connected with a meter gauge train to Palampur) and is well connected from all important places of the country by road (NH20) and air (Kangra airport is arount 50 Kms). Good number of buses are available to Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla etc.

Short Term Training Course on Bioinformatics in Genomics and Proteomics - It is provided at Bioinformatics Centre, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, CSK HP Agricultural University, Palampur- 176062 (H.P.). The two-days workshop includes theory lectures and practical demonstrations by experts in the related fields. The course is be useful to Scientists, Research Scholars, Post graduate students and also for people engaged in the area of bioinformatics.
Short Term Training in Basic and Applied aspects of Microbiology - It is conducted twice a year and the duration of the Training is 1-3 months.
CGRT - Centre for Geo-informatics Centre has a multidisciplinary faculty trained at national and international level to carry out research and development activities in the field of Geo-Informatics. A state of the art research laboratory is currently catering to the needs of the research and development work that is being carried out at the centre. This facility provides capacity for higher end computing applications such as remote sensing, geo-information technology, software development and systems simulation to the faculty, and students involved in these applications.
It provides Training facilities for the following fields in Geo-informatics and Computer Science:
1. Specialized Training
Geo-informatics and Remote Sensing [4 weeks]:
Week 1: GIS, GPS, Working with GIS data using ESRI Arc Explorer, ILWIS.
Week 2: Working with ArcView and ILWIS: designing thematic maps from user data.
Week 3: Working with ArcGIS, ArcToolBox, ArcCatalog: GIS functionality and analysis.
Week 4: Remote Sensing, image file formats, Geo-referencing, mosaic, digital image processing, virtual GIS, working with ERDAS.
The training is split into 4 modules and an individual can select modules as per convenience. The cost of individual module is Rs. 3000/- per week and the entire training costs Rs. 12000/- per month. This fee is not refundable under any circumstances.
Target Audience: Mid Career professionals, individuals working in NGO or students desiring specialized training in Geo-informatics.
2. Academic Project
Geo-informatics [Academic Project] - Preparation of digital spatial databases, generating thematic maps from attribute data, designing of spatial information system.
Computer Sciences [Academic Project] - Software Application Development in Databases, use of Active-X technologies, Web based information dissemination.
Those looking for a place to complete their academic project training, or work on a live project pertaining to Computer Sciences in any one of the above mentioned work areas, can contact Centre for Geo-informatics. The minimum duration of the training is One Month for which the University charges Rs. 8000/- per month as training fee, with Rs. 2000/- per week for additional time. This fee is not refundable under any circumstances.
Target Audience: Students of various disciplines of Computer Science, Engineering and Geography who have Compulsory Project Training as a requirement for fulfilment of the degree.

Students' Counselling & Placement Cell - The Advisory/ Counselling system is running successfully in each College under the supervision of the concerned Dean. A Class In-Charge/Tutor is allotted to each class who completes the advisory work with the assistance of Advisor's. A batch of 5 to 10 UG students is usually given to an Advisor for guidance. In case of PG students, there is Major Advisor for each student. At the start of the Academic Session, the Dean of the College holds Fresh-Senior student interactions as well as Orientation classes to New Entrants to make them aware of University facilities, education system, rules and regulations, etc. The Co-Coordinator of each college furnishes Bio-data of each Final year student, a list of prospective employers/Job avenues in Firms/Industries for pass-out graduates and a list of special soft skills required by any prospective employer to the Coordinator within one month from the commencement of 1st semester of every academic year. The Coordinator is also responsible for organizing specialized lectures/trainings at the university level and holding Campus Recruitment Tests/Interviews to the students.
Placement Portal - The Placement Portal automates the Placement process at the college. Employers can use this portal to communicate with the College Placement Office and through necessary permissions manage campus recruitment and hire students and alumni online. Extension Education - It conducts a large number of trainings for farmers, livestock keepers, farm ladies, rural youth, etc at main campus and at its eight Krishi Vigyan Kendras (Farm Science Centres) at Bajaura, Dhaulakuan, Hamirpur, Una, Mandi, Kangra, Berthin and Kukumseri.

On-Campus Trainings programmes of short durations (one day to one month) are organized on various aspects of agriculture and allied fields viz. :
These trainings are organized for the benefit of farmers, women-groups, Mahila Mandals, unemployed youths, Self Help Groups, Entrepreneurs, Officers of different government departments as well as to NGOs.
Off-Campus Trainings - One day off-campus training programmes are also organized under different projects in the project areas.
Organization of Workshop and Seminars - These provide common platform for interaction among university scientists, officers of the agriculture departments, other extension workers and progressive farmers Rabi Workshop and Kharif Workshop are organized every year before the commencement of Rabi and Kharif seasons, respectively. In these workshops new recommendations of the university for improving agricultural production as well as emerging problems and issues are discussed and packages of practices for cereal crops are finalized.
3. Farm Information and Communication
ATIC - Agricultural Technology Information Centre has been providing technologies in the field of agriculture, veterinary, agricultural engineering, fisheries, poultry as well as on value added products.

University Museum - The Museum is located in the ground floor of the communication centre at university headquarter, Palampur. It is the mirror of the university activities under single roof depicting the activities of different departments of the constituent colleges, various research stations and Directorate of Extension Education through live samples, seeds, models, charts, photographs, slides, implements (traditional as well as modern) and literature.
