About Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University

Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University has been established by an Act of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly by the Jammu & Kashmir Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Act No. XVI of 2002. The university became functional in 2005. The university is also referred as BGSB university which is its short form. The university is nurtured by the Jammu & Kashmir Wakf Council. It is named after a great Muslim Saint “Hazrat Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah” who lived here many centuries ago. The motto of the university is “Iqra bismi Rabbik alladi Khalaq” which means, “Read in the name of God who has created all that exists”. The university campus is located at the foothills of the great Himalayan Pir Panjal range in Rajouri.

The university campus is located at the foothills of the great Himalayan Pir Panjal range (slopes of Dhanidhar) in Rajouri, 154 Km from Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir state.

Hostel Facilities - The University provides an excellent hostel facilities are for boys as well as girls. It offers homely environment, well furnished and well ventilated rooms.

Central Library Facilities - Central Library works under the supervision of Library Advisory Committee. The library has twelve different sections such as Circulation, Acquisition, Classification, Cataloguing, Periodical, Internet Lab, Reference and Information Services, Stack Area, Reading Room, Newspapers and Magazines, Digital Documents Section, Dissertations and Thesis Section. There is a separate book bank for students of socially disadvantaged categories in Library. The library is registered as an institutional member of DELNET-a network of 2196 member libraries all across the globe.

Scholarship Facilities - Almost 60% of the total students who get enrolled for various courses of study in a session are awarded handsome scholarships by different agencies of the State and Central Governments.

Canteen Facilities - The University campus has more than one canteen with provision for lunch, tea, soft drinks and snacks. The upkeep, hygiene and quality of service are monitored by a committee.

Sports’ Facilities - The University provides following facilities regarding games and sports both Outdoor and Indoor Games for the students on the campus. The sports activities are Volley ball, Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Badminton, Trekking and Cross country, Tug of War, Table Tennis and Chess.

Bus Facilities - There is a regular bus service, on nominal charges, runs between the Campus and Rajouri town for the convenience of students.

Internet Facilities - All teaching departments and the hostel have been provided Internet facility.

Placement Cell – The University maintains a full-fledged Placement Cell with full time professional Placement officer. The Cell organizes training programmes round the year, prepares prospective students for Campus selection programmes, coordinates with the corporate sector and facilitates Campus selection.

Bank and Post Office - A branch of the Jammu & Kashmir Bank operates from within the Campus. The students also avail the facility of branch post-office.

Dispensary - The University maintains well-equipped dispensary with a qualified House surgeon, technical and nursing staff. The services of the Doctor are available to students free of cost.

Reservation of Seats - The University has made special provision for admission of children of the socially disadvantaged people. Seats have been reserved for them in all the Departments.

The breakup of such reserved seats is:

• Permanent residents of Rajouri and Poonch districts: 25%
• Scheduled tribes: 09%
• Scheduled castes: 08%
• Other Backward Areas: 05%
• Wards of defence service personnel who are permanent: 02% residents of J&K State, and candidates belonging to weak and under-privileged classes as notified by the state from time to time, vide latest SRO
