Universities of Kolkata Agricultural Universities
Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya is an Agricultural University, established by West Bengal Act XX of 2000. It started it's functioning from 1st February, 2001. It was established by the state government of West Bengal as a satellite campus of the State Agriculture University at Pundibari of Cooch-Behar district in 1979. It was established because the six northern districts of West Bengal viz., Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Malda, Dakshin Dinajpur and Uttar Dinajpur, had low productivity. And as such there was a need to incerase horticultural crop production of these regions. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research accredited the campus and started extending development support. In due course of time, National Agricultural Research Project (NARP) was introduced making Pundibari, the head-quarter of the Terai-agro climatic zone of West Bengal. In order to further improve the horticulture facilities, the state government upgraded this campus to a full-fledged State Agricultural University in July 2000 covering the entire North Bengal. It offers a number of under graduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in the field of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Home Science and Fisheries Science.
