Central University of Jammu (CUJ) is a Central Deemed having its territorial jurisdiction extending over Jammu Division of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. CJU has been established and incorporated by the Central Universities Act, 2009 (Act No. 25 of 2009) read with the Central Universities (Amendment) Act, 2009 (Act No. 38 of 2009), with effect from October 20, 2009. The University started functioning from August 08, 2011 with appointment of its first Vice-Chancellor. The first academic session (2011-2012) commenced with three Post Graduate courses in English, Economics and Applied Mathematics at Temporary Academic Block-I (TAB-I) at Sidhra bypass road, Jammu. In the next academic session (2012-2013), five PG Courses were added: Computer Science, Educational Studies, Environmental Sciences, Human Resource Management and Travel and Tourism Management in Temporary Academic Block (TAB-II) at Sainik Colony Extension. Since the third session (2013-2014) all the departments are functioning from TAB at Sainik Colony. Four new post graduate courses were introduced in the academic session (2014-2015): National Security Studies; Public Policy and Public Administration; Social Work and Mass Communication & New Media. The University also offers Integrated M-Phil-Ph.D programme in eight subjects. The administrative office of the University is housed temporarily in a building at the campus site at Bagla (Rahya-Suchani), Distt-Samba, (J&K). Its campus is under construction at Village Bagla, Raya Suchani in District Samba, which is at an approximate distance of 25 kms. from Jammu.
The University has introduced Comprehensive Choice Based Credit System (CCBCS). Comprehensive Continuous Internal Assessment for all Academic Programmes Students in all Programmes of Studies across disciplines and at all levels are assessed through Comprehensive Continuous Internal Assessment based on quizzes, assignments, independent works, group work, mid-semester and end-semester examinations.
As a general principle, the Comprehensive Continuous Internal Assessment comprises the following components:
a) Continuous Internal Assessment - 25%
b) Mid-Semester Examination - 25%
c) End-Semester Examination - 50%

Facilities’ at CUJ
Hostels – The University provides limited residential facilities in hired buildings and is provided to the students on the basis of merit. There are two hostels for boys and two for girls. The rooms of the present hostel are well ventilated and installed with basic furniture. The hostels have a well running mess as well. Separate common rooms for boys and girls having indoor sport facilities like table tennis, carom and chess. A hygienic cafeteria is also available.
Library – It has a collection of 11644 books and 38 journals. Apart from books library also has online E-Journals. The library also has a computer laboratory with 24X7 Wi-Fi facilities for research scholars and students. The library functions on all days.
Classrooms and Lecture Theatres - The Temporary Academic Block has classrooms which are furnished and equipped with requisite multimedia aids for teaching.
Concession for Kashmiri Migrant Students - Concessions to the Kashmiri migrant candidates will be given as per UGC instructions. The candidates desirous of this concessions should specially mention on the top of the application form and enclose a certificate from the Competent authority with regard to his/her migrant status.
Scholarships - Different scholarships/fellowships available in the Central University of Jammu.
Some of these are:
University Non-Net Fellowship - The Scheme for Non-Net Fellowship is applicable for M.Phil. and Ph.D. students who are not in receipt of any financial assistance from any source and are registered in various departments of the University. The award and extension of fellowship will always be subject to actual release of funds from the UGC and compliance with stipulated conditions.
Conditions
i) M.Phil. students not availing any financial assistance from any other sources will be considered for the award of Non-Net fellowship of Rs. 5,000 per month with contingency of Rs. 10,000 per year for Science students and Rs. 8,000 per year for Humanities and Social Science students.
ii) Ph.D. Programme - Selected students will be entitled to Rs 8,000 per month as fellowship and contingency of Rs.10,000 for Science students and Rs.8,000 for Humanities and Social Science students.
Internet - The temporary campus is equipped with seamless Wi-Fi connectivity and students can access the Internet through their own laptops. The University is having NKN (National Knowledge Network) connectivity of bandwidth of 1GBPS.
IT Facilities - National Knowledge Network, a Video Conferencing has been set up in the University. This video conferencing facility can be used to bridge the physical distance between various locations. In near future the University plans to start classes through virtual classrooms in collaboration with other Universities, IIT’s, NIT’s etc. The smart classrooms will also be created so that teachers can impart education in more efficient and effective ways.
ICT Laboratories - The University has 3 ICT Laboratories equipped with high-end PCs.
Co-Curricular Activities - Facilities for sports and other co-curricular activities are available at temporary academic block of the University. These include outdoor games such as volleyball, badminton and basketball. Facilities for indoor games like table tennis, chess and carom are also available.
Healthcare - Medical facilities of in-house Doctor have been made available for the students, staff and faculty of the University.
Canteen - The University has a spacious, airy canteen where students and teaching faculty get an opportunity to interact and relish the neat and clean eatables prepared by University under hygienic conditions by Nescafe.
Visiting/ Guest Faculty - Besides, the full time faculty, the University invites eminent and experienced academicians, professionals and practitioners to teach different modules and interact with students, scholars and faculty. This helps in quality inputs and exposure of students/scholars to diversity in teaching-learning process.
Cultural Events - The University has been arranging variety of cultural programmes for the benefit of all stake holders.
Auditorium - The air-conditioned University Auditorium features seating capacity of about 165 persons. It is a multipurpose hall which caters to all academic and cultural activities of the University. It is equipped with projector and video conferencing equipment.
Medical Facility - Basic medical facilities of in-house doctor have been made available for the students, staff and faculty
Transport – The University provides commutation of students and staff buses are used that ply from various locations in the city to the temporary academic block.
Sports and Welfare - Facilities for sports and other co-curricular activities are available at the Central University of Jammu. These include outdoor games such as volleyball; badminton, shot-put and basketball. Besides, facilities for indoor games like table tennis, chess and carom are also available.
For the welfare of the students, the University has arranged life insurance policy for all the students and the scholars under the Student Insurance Scheme.
