University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) is a Private State Private University specialising in technical education. In fact, it is the first State Private University on Science and Technology in the entire North East India. USTM is sponsored by ERD Foundation or Education Research Development Foundation, Guwahati. ERD is one of the educational societies in North East India having objective of imparting professional and technical education in the North Eastern part of the country. The University has been established under the provisions of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya Act (No.6 of 2008) enacted by Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya, dated 02.12.2008 of Government of Meghalaya. The University is empowered by the University Grants Commission, to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956. University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya is a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is approved Bar Council of India (BCI). The University has a land area of approximately 121.51 acres of land. The campus is well connected by Rail and Air.

Location of UST, Meghalaya

USTM is located very strategically at the border of Assam in the state of Meghalaya in close proximity to the city of Guwahati near Assam-Meghalaya border just 1 km from G S Road, Baridua, 9th mile, opposite to CRPF Camp, Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya. The University campus is at a distance of nearly 6 km away from the capital of Assam.

Transportation

It is about 85 kms from Shillong, the Capital of Meghalaya and 6 kms from Dispur, the Capital of Assam. The campus is well connected by Rail and Air.

I.  By Road

From Guwahati

• The distance from ISBT to USTM is 12 kms
• The distance from from Khanapara to USTM is 3 Kms
• The distance from from Dispur to USTM is 6 Kms
• Regular city buses and auto services are also available

From Shillong

Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is only 85 km to the USTM Campus.

II.  By Air

The nearest Airport is LGBI Airport, Guwahati which is only 40km from the Campus. Taxi and Auto rickshaw services are available at Guwahati Airport.

III.  By Rail

Guwahati is the nearest railway station, which is about 15 km from the campus. Regular auto and bus services are also available from the Railway Station.

Facilities at USTM

Hostels – Separate hostels facilities for girls and boys are available on the campus with all the modern amenities. The boys hostels is named Sir Syed Boys hostel which accommodates about 220 students. The girl’s hostel is named Paschecal Suchaing Girls Hostel which accommodates about 100 students.

Library - The Central Library is named Maulana Azad Central Library after the name of Abul Kalam Azad. He was the first education minister of independent India, man behind establishment of a national education system and establishment of the Institute for national importance like IIT and UGC. It has a collection of more than 40,000 thousand volumes of book. The library is also equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of CD-ROM, on-line databases, e-journals, e-books, journals, project reports, thesis, etc. E-library facility and book bank facility is also available here.

Scholarships - The Institute provides the below mentioned scholarships of Rs. 500/- per month to the exceptionally meritorious students on the basis of their performance in the semester examination as well as other criteria to be prescribed from time to time.

Central Government Aids - Ministry of Minority Affairs has been providing Rs. 30,000 per year to the students belonging to the Minority Community pursuing various courses.

Laboratories – The University has well equipped Biotechnology, Microbiology, Tissue Culture, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Electronics, Psychology, Basic and Applied Science Laboratories.

Internet – The University has Wi-Fi enabled campus.

Computer Centre – It is equipped with 200 plus high end computing devices.

Transportation - The students and faculties are ferried from various parts of Guwahati by a dedicated fleet of 7 Buses and a host of other vehicles.

Central Instrumentation Facility – The facility provided infrastructure for high profile research and development activities in the north east part of the country. The University has developed laboratories equipped with high precession equipments.

Art and Hobby Centre – The University has an Art and Hobby Centre and a Cultural Forum for organising various extracurricular activities.

Sports Complex - A sports complex spread over 2 acres of land is available within the campus.

NSS - NSS volunteers actively participate in programme like AIDS awareness campaign, free health camps, blood donation camps, world environment day celebration, national integration programme, wild life week celebration etc. The student volunteers also actively work in slum areas, backward rural areas, adopted villages and backward neglected areas. The NSS has about one thousand student’s volunteers.

Gymnasium - To maintain physical and emotional well being, a modern gymnasium is equipped with modern exercising gadgets and equipments.

Conference Hall – The University has 300 seater conference hall with modern communication facilities.

Placement Cell – The cell organises work-based learning, volunteering, industrial visit, field visit, mentoring professional support services etc. At the end of the second last and last semesters on-campus as well as off-campus along with Pool Campus, job interviews are facilitated. Pre-placement training programmes are organized to enhance the employability of the targeted students. These programmes provides basic soft skills, self grooming, body language, group discussion, mock interviews, art of public speaking, skills for facing interviews etc.
