BIT Mesra MCA Exam 2015 - The Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, also acronym as BIT Mesra takes  an Online Entrance Test for short listing candidates for admission to its 3-year / 6-semester  full-time MCA  programme, usually  in the month of July every year  at Mesra, Ranchi, and its Extension Centers at Allahabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lalpur, and Noida. Being a reputed institute this exam is taken by students from all over India. BIT Mesra MCA exam is one of the well known Engineering Entrance Exams in India.


BIT Mesra MCA Exam Eligibility 

To be eligible to take this test and get admission in the reputed institute the candidate must full fill following given condition otherwise his candidature will stand canceled at any stage:

  1. Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (a minimum of three years of education (10+2+3 system) after completing higher secondary schooling.) of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislatures in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India/AIU.

  2. Candidates must have one of following qualifications:
    • BCA, or
    • B.Sc. in Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics, or
    • B.Sc./B.A. with Mathematics or Statistics at graduate level

  3. Candidates of B.Sc./B.A. Honors must have minimum 60% (45% in case of  SC/ST candidates) marks in average in their Honors subject. Candidates of BCA and other graduate courses must have minimum 60% (45% in case of  SC/ST candidates) marks in average in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate have appeared (excluding optional subjects).

Important:-Candidates having qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals/while in employment.

Candidates appearing for final examinations of their Bachelor's programme in respective year can also apply, and if selected can join the programme provisionally subject to their submitting the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the Bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification with requisite marks by 31 October.

At the time of the counselling they must bring (i) certificate in original from the Principal of their Institute stating that by 30 June of  year they will have appeared for examination in all subjects required for obtaining their Bachelor's degree. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.


BIT Mesra MCA Exam Syllabus 

BIT Mesra exam consists of the following given subject:

Section A:



Fundamental operations in Algebra, expansion, factorization, quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, binomial theorem, permutations and combinations, surds

Set Theory

Sets and subsets, operations on sets, sequences, properties of integers, relations and functions

Matrix Algebra

Elementary transformations, inverse of a matrix, rank, solution of simultaneous linear equations, eigen values and eigenvectors, quadratic forms

Co-ordinate Geometry

Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, equations of a line, midpoint, intersections etc., equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, scaling.


Limit of functions, continuous functions, differentiation of functions(s), tangents and normal, simple examples of maxima and minima, integration of function by parts, by substitution and by partial fraction, definite integral application to volumes and surfaces of frustums of a sphere, cone, cylinder, Taylor Series.

Differential Equations

Differential equations of first order and their solutions, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear differential equations


Position vector, additions and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics


Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, height and distance, inverse function

Probability and Statistics

Basic concepts of probability theory, averages, dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions, skewness and kurtosis, random variable and distribution functions, mathematical expectations, binomial, Poisson, normal distributions, curve fitting, and principle of least squares, correlation and regression

Linear Programming

Formulation of simple linear programming problems, basic concepts of graphical and simplex methods, revised simplex method, transportation and assignment problems, duality and integer programming

Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning

Questions in this section will test logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and visio-spatial reasoning

Computer Basics

Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back-up devices

Data Representation

Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, single arithmetic and two complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, normalized floating point representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams

Computer Architecture

Block structure of computers, communication between processor and I / O devices, interrupts

Computer Language

Assembly language and high-level language, Multiprogramming and time-sharing operating systems, Computer Programming in C

Operating Systems

Evolution of operating systems, types of operating systems, functions of an operating system, modern operating systems.

BIT Mesra MCA Exam Pattern 

BIT Mesra exam is multiple-choice based entrance exam, with negative marking for wrong answers. The paper comprises of 120 questions to be answered in 2 hours. Each question shall carry 4 marks for correct answer. For every incorrect answer one mark shall be deducted. If a question has not been attempted no credit will be given.

Application form and the bulletin can be obtained on payment of Rs.1250 by post or Rs.1200 by hand.


How to apply for BITS Mesra Exam?

Aspiring candidates can visit the official website of BIT Mesra to fill in the online application form. They are require send the print out of the filled-in application form along with two colored photos, duplicates of certificates & mark sheets and a Demand Draft of  Rs.1,600 issued in the name of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi.

The documents should be dispatched via registered post/ speedpost/ courier service to the office of Dean Admissions, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi – 835215 before or on the last date of submission.

Note:- Candidates need to write ‘Application for MCA 2015’ on the envelope.

While filling online application forms, candidates should select the place for study/ center by ticking in the check box given against a particular option. The choices will include BIT Mesra or study centers at Allahabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lalpur and Noida.
