What is TOEFL Test?
Computer based test in India since October 2000 the Test of English as a Foreign Language is a Standardized test that evaluates the English Proficiency of people whose native language is not English. Nearly 2400 educational institutions/Universities in the US and Canada require TOEFL® test scores from each applicant desirous to take admission there. However this test is only to test English proficiency of the takers and high score in it alone does not guarantee into any kind of admission offer from a great school. But the test is compulsory and cannot be surpassed.
Why it is taken?
TOEFL test is taken to evaluate the English proficiency of people who are non-native English speakers. In addition, international companies, government agencies, scholarship programs, and recruitment agencies use TOEFL scores to evaluate English proficiency.
What are the main contents of the TOFEL test.
Contents of the TOFEL test are:
Grammar, Reading, Vocabulary, Listening comp, Writing and targeted TOEFL test taking skills and strategies.
English Language training through American films.
University Admission Guidance, Exercises and information.
Review of idiomatic expressions and responses that they are likely to encounter on American campuses and in professional settings.
The test has four sections:
The number of questions and the time allocated to solve each question can vary. One student may get 35 questions in Listening section while another may get 45. But, the additional questions are for research purposes only and the scores of all test takers are based on the same number of questions.
Format of the TOEFL® test:
Total 94 - 135 question + 1 Essay 4 hrs. (approx.)

Where the test is taken in India?
Computer based TOEFL® test is held all-round-the-year. one can choose his own date and time for taking the TOEFL® test. The test is taken from Monday through Friday two times in a day.
September to December is the high season for this test so to take test during this time nearly 90 days advance registration is required to get a date of choice. However in normal conditions registering at least three days in advance is mandatory.
For the conduct of the test, ETS (Educational Testing Services) has appointed Testing Agencies in various countries, which act as franchisees for ETS. In India, this agency is the "Sylvan Testing Services Pvt Ltd" which administers the test at 9 centers in the country:
Ahmedabad,
Allahabad,
Bangalore,
Calcutta,
Chennai,
Hyderabad,
Mumbai,
New Delhi, and
Trivandrum.
What is the duration of the test?
One can take the test within one to four weeks in most countries. The four-hour test consists of four sections, each measuring mainly one of the basic language skills . The test cannot be taken more than once a week.
What is the eligibility for the test?
There are no restrictions based on age or qualifications. So any one can take the test.
What is the validity period of the TOFEL Test
The test scores are valid for two years
