Geologists Exam 2013 - Geologist Exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the following two category of posts:

Category I                    
  1. Geologist (Junior), Group A
  2. Assistant Geologist, Group B in the Geological Survey of India.
Category II                          
  1. Jr. Hydrogeologist, Group A
  2. Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group B in the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) at selected centres  in India.

 
The selected Candidates are appointed on probation for two years. During this period they have to undergo training and pass test prescribed by the competent authority.

 Geologists Exam Eligibility

Nationality:

A candidate must be either :

  1. a citizen of India, or
  2. a subject of Nepal, or
  3. a subject of Bhutan, or
  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. or
  5. a person of India origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania; Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categores (2), (3), (4) and (5) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification:
Candidates desirous to take UPSC Geologist Exam must possess one of the following educational qualification:

  1. Master's degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or Mineral Exploration or Hydrology from a recognized University or
  2. Diploma of Associate ship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad or
  3. Master's degree in Mineral exploration from a recognized university (for posts in GSI); or
  4. Master's degree in Hydrogeology from a recgonized university (for posts in CGWB)

Age:
A candidate desirous of undertaking this UPSC Examination, must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st January, of the year he is taking the exam.

Reservations as per governmental norms are applicable regarding age limits and job vacancies

 Geologists Exam Syllabus

 Geologist Exam Consists of questions from General English, Geology and Hydrology.

 Geologists Exam Pattern

Geologists Examination comprising of the following given papers and Personality test of such candidates who qualify on the basis of the written examination.

Pattern of the Test

 Part I - Written examination will consists of the following papers of conventional type:-

Written examination: Subjects of written examination and marks allotted to each is as follows

Important:

  1. Candidates competing for posts under both category I and category II have to appear in all the five subjects mentioned above.
  2. Candidates competing for posts under category I only need to appear in subjects at (1) to (4) above and
  3. Candidates competing for posts under category II only will be required to appear in subject (1), (2), (3) and (5) above.

Note:- The Examination in all the subjects will be of conventional (Essay) type. The Question Papers will be set in English only.

Part II-Personality Test /Interview Candidates who are short listed in the Written Examination are required to appear for an Interview which carry a maximum of 200 marks.
