TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language

TOEFL TEST 2012 -  Test of English as a Foreign Language is a Standardized test that evaluates the English Proficiency of people whose native language is not English. Nearly 2400 educational institutions / Universities in the US and Canada require TOEFL test scores from each applicant desirous to take admission there. However this test is only to test English proficiency of the takers and high score in it alone does not guarantee into any kind of admission offer from a great school. But the test is compulsory and cannot be surpassed. This computer based test  is taken in India since October 2000.

TOEFL Test Eligibility

There are no restrictions based on age or qualifications. So any one can take the test.

TOEFL Syllabus

TOFEL  consists of question fom:

• Grammar, Reading, Vocabulary, Listening comp, Writing and targeted TOEFL test taking skills and strategies.
• English Language training through American films.
• University Admission Guidance, Exercises and information.
• Review of idiomatic expressions and responses that they are likely to encounter on American campuses and in professional settings.

The test has four sections:

• Listening
• Structure
• Reading and
• Writing

The number of questions and the time allocated to solve each question can vary. One student may get 35 questions in Listening section while another may get 45. But, the additional questions are for research purposes only and the scores of all test takers are based on the same number of questions.
