Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering exam popularly known as GATE is scheduled to be conducted online from February 4 to 5, 2017 and February 11 to 12, 2017 with some changes including a new section in the paper have been introduced this year.
The examination will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee for granting admissions to PG programmes (e.g., M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and other government agencies.
GATE score is also being used as one of the criteria for recruitment in government organizations such as Cabinet Secretariat, and National/State Public Sector Undertakings in India.
Changes introduced in GATE 2017 are as follows:
New section in XE: The XE (engineering sciences) paper now has a new section on atmospheric and oceanic sciences (section H). With this, the number of sections in the XE paper has increased to eight (A-H)
GATE international: GATE examinations shall be conducted in:
The international candidates should have completed a Bachelor's degree in engineering or Master's degree in science in relevant subject. However final year students can also apply.
Application process:
There will be no restriction on second choice of the examination city if it is in the same zone, which would be the first choice city. It can be anywhere in India

The candidates, who have completed the qualifying degree, need to upload scanned image of degree completion certificate or final year/semester mark sheet.
However, candidates studying in the final year of their qualifying degree need to upload scanned image of pre-final year (or fifth/sixth semester) mark sheet, or provisional certificate letter from his/her institute as a proof of eligibility criterion. Similarly, this applies to candidates of AMIE, AMICE and other similar programmes.
The validity of GATE 2017 score shall be for three years.
