MFA Painting focuses on using painting as a medium of expression. Students in this program will learn about the evolution of many painting techniques and genres, as well as color theory, composition, and painting history. They will also be given the opportunity to develop their distinctive painting personalities and create a body of work that expresses their particular point of view.

The MFA in Applied Art emphasizes the use of art in real-world situations such as graphic design, advertising, product design, and architecture. This curriculum will teach students about digital media, typography, color theory, and design concepts. They will also get the opportunity to work on tasks that require them to utilize their creativity and problem-solving skills to address real-world problems.

MFA Sculpture students focus on creating three-dimensional works of art. This curriculum will teach students about the history of sculpture, the properties of various materials, and methods for creating sculptures in a range of forms and genres. As sculptors, students will also have the opportunity to develop their own voice and style, as well as create a body of work that represents that style.

Even though each of these disciplines of study is distinct, they nevertheless have some characteristics. All three programs need a high level of technical knowledge, ingenuity, and artistic vision. Students must also produce a body of work that displays their knowledge of their chosen area.

The programs also differ significantly from one another. Unlike MFA Applied Art and Sculpture, which have a more practical focus, MFA Painting is entirely concerned with painting as an expressive medium. Whereas sculpture is concerned with creating three-dimensional works of art, applied art is concerned with adapting art to practical purposes.
