P.G.D. Social Work among Tribals or Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work among Tribals is a postgraduate social work course. Social work refers to various services designed to aid and increase the welfare of the poor, aged and needy. The course is the first of its kind in Indian higher education system. IGNOU is the only provider of this course. It has been designed to provide basic knowledge and information regarding the Tribes/Tribals in India. The duration of the course is one year and the maximum one to complete the course is four years. It comprises of six compulsory courses including practicum. This programme is offered only in English. However, a student can appear for examination in Hindi as well. This Course enables one to become a Social worker who can help people belonging to various tribes and resolve the issues that affect them.

  • Candidates need to submit one assignment per course within the stipulated time for being eligible to appear in the term-end examination. For PGDSWT you should do one each Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs). The TMAs must be submitted to the Coordinator of the Study Centre allotted to you.
  • Since social work is a professional programme of study, social work students are encouraged to take student membership in the National Association of Professional Social Workers in India NAPSWI).
  • To provide individualised support to its learners, the University has many Study Centres, spread throughout the country. These Study Centres are coordinated by 60 Regional Centres and Recognised Regional Centres.
  • At the Study Centres, the learners interact with the Academic Counsellors and other learners, refer to books in the Library, watch/listen to video/audio programmes and interact with the Coordinator on administrative and academic matters.
  • Support services are also provided through Work Centres, Programme Study Centres, Skill Development Centres and Special Study Centres.
