GATE 2024 - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering acronym GATE is being conducted on an all-India basis by the Indian Institutes of Technology Madras, Chennai on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI) for admissions to postgraduate programs (Master’s and Doctoral) with MHRD and other Government Scholarships / Assistantships in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science.

The GATE score assists in getting admissions to post-graduate programs (e.g., M.E, M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies.

GATE Exam 2024 Eligibility

Educational Qualification

  • Aspiring candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc/Diploma in Engineering/Technology) and those who are in the final year of such programs. OR
  • Aspiring candidates should have Bachelor’s degree holders in Architecture (Five years course) and those who are in the final year of such programs. OR
  • Aspiring candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in a Four-year program in Science (B.S) and those who are in the final year of such a program. OR
  • Aspiring candidates should have a Master’s degree in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications or equivalent and those are in the final year of such programs. OR
  • Candidates holding a four-year Integrated Master’s degree (Post B.Sc.) in Engineering / Technology and those who are in the second or higher year of such programs. OR
  • Candidates holding a Five-year Integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree in Engineering / Technology and those who are in the fourth or higher year of such programs. OR
  • Candidates holding a Five-year integrated M.Sc or Five-year integrated B.Sc / M.Sc degree and those who are in the final year of such programs. OR
  • Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to B.E / B.Tech. Those who have completed section A of AMIE or the equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

 

GATE Exam 2024 Syllabus

The gate exam will consist of questions from:

  • General Aptitude (GA) component common in all papers
  • Verbal Ability: English grammar, sentence completion, verbal analogies, word groups, instructions, critical reasoning.
  • Engineering: The question will be from the relevant subject of the trade.

GATE Exam 2024 Pattern

GATE question paper for all the subjects will contain 65 questions carrying 100 marks and is to be completed in 3 hours duration, out of which 10 questions will be in General Aptitude (GA) section carrying 15 marks.

Papers with the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF, and XE will have the following pattern:

  • Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks.
  • The General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks.
  • The remaining 70% of the total marks are devoted to the subject of the paper.

Papers with the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, and XL, will have the following pattern:

  • The General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks
  • The remaining 85% of the total marks are devoted to the subject of the paper

GATE question papers will have two types of questions:

MCQs carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections:

These questions are objective in nature and will have a choice of four answers each, out of which the candidate must mark the correct answer(s).

Numerical answer questions which will carry 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections:

For these questions the answer is a real number, to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keypad. This type of question will not have many choices for the candidate to choose from.

Important: There will be a negative marking (1/3rd) for each wrong answer.

 

GATE Exam 2024 Dates

This exam is normally held in the month of February.

Aspiring candidates can apply for GATE only through Online mode by visiting the official website i.e. http://gate.iitm.ac.in/ and following the instructions given there.

The fee for the exam for various categories is as follows.
