Geologists Exam 2024 - The geologist Exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the following two categories of posts:
Category I |
- Geologist (Junior), Group A
- Assistant Geologist, Group B in the Geological Survey of India

Category II |
- Jr. Hydrogeologist, Group A
- Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group B in the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) at selected centers in India.

The selected candidates are appointed on probation for two years. During this period they have to undergo training and pass a test prescribed by the competent authority.

Geologists Exam 2024 Eligibility
Educational Qualification
Candidates desirous to take UPSC Geologist Exam must possess one of the following educational qualifications:
- Master's degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or Mineral Exploration or Hydrology from a recognized University OR
- Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad OR
- Master's degree in Mineral exploration from a recognized university (for posts in GSI); OR
- Master's degree in Hydrogeology from a recognized university (for posts in CGWB)
Age Limits
- A candidate desirous of undertaking this UPSC Examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st January, of the year he is taking the exam.
Note: Reservations as per governmental norms are applicable regarding age limits and job vacancies.
Nationality
A candidate must be either:
- a citizen of India, or
- a subject of Nepal, or
- a subject of Bhutan, or
- a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. or
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania; Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4), and (5) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

Geologists Exam 2024 Pattern
Geologists Examination comprising of the following given papers and Personality test of such candidates who qualify on the basis of the written examination.
Part-I - Written examination will consist of the following papers of conventional type:-

Important
- Candidates competing for posts under both categories I and category II have to appear in all the five subjects mentioned above.
- Candidates competing for posts under category I only need to appear in subjects at (1) to (4) above and
- Candidates competing for posts under category II only will be required to appear in the subject (1), (2), (3), and (5) above.
Note:- The Examination in all the subjects will be of conventional (Essay) type. The Question Papers will be set in English only.
Part-II - Personality Test / Interview Candidates who are shortlisted in the Written Examination are required to appear for an Interview that carries a maximum of 200 marks.
