World Naked Gardening Day

Held on 1st Saturday 2022

Gardening is a very old hobby. Gardening naked allows a natural connection with the earth through the soil and the breeze. One doesn't need to be a naturist to appreciate the sensations associated with naked gardening. It has a timeless quality, and anyone can do it whether young and old, singles or groups, the fit and infirm, urban and rural. People across the globe are encouraged to tend their portion of the world's garden as nature intended. It is observed because it is a fun activity and gardening is at the top of the list of family-friendly activities which people are most ready to consider doing nude. Moreover, our culture needs to move toward a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment. Gardening naked is not only a simple joy, it reminds us - even if only for those few sun-kissed minutes - that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet. WNGD has no political agenda, nor is it owned or organized by any one particular group.

History - World Naked Gardening Day is a collaborative project founded in May of 2005 by the Body Freedom Collaborative (BFC). The Body Freedom Collaborative (BFC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the integration and acceptance of non-sexual social nudity in a variety of public and private settings. The group was formed in late 2001. Mark Storey is the co-founder and current project lead of WNGD. WNGD is fun, costs no money, runs no unwanted risk, reminds us of our tie to the natural world, and does something good for the environment. The day is celebrated in different countries and on different dates so there is no fixed date of this event.

Events - All that's needed to observe this day is getting naked and making the world's gardens - whatever their size, public or private - healthier and more attractive. Naked individuals and groups are encouraged to adopt the day for themselves. Events like WNGD can help develop a sense of community among people of every stripe. Taking part in something that is bigger than any one household, naturist group, or gardening club can move gardeners with an au naturel joie de vivre toward becoming a community.

  • It can be done alone, with friends, with family, with gardening club, or with any other group collected for that purpose. It can done inside your own house, in your back yard, on a hiking trail, at a city park, or on the streets. One can stay private or go public. It can made into a quiet time or can be made a public splash. Getting naked itself makes one, a part of the botanical world, a healthier and more attractive place.
  • Families rake leaves in their back yard. Freehikers pull invasive weeds along their favourite stretch of trail. More daring groups make rapid clothes-free sorties into public parks to do community-friendly stealth clean-ups.
  • Experiences are shared amongst the masses. As no one owns this event it can be shared freely in whatever way one pleases. Participants tell their friends about their day of naked gardening, they write down what they thought of it and email it to the local newspaper, post their thoughts and images onto an Internet site, submit stories and photos to the club newsletter.

Holiday Status - It is not a Public Holiday.
