It is also written when you want to wish good to someone who is about to undertake a journey or is on holidays in a foreign land or outside the native place. It is also used to share your thoughts on the upcoming festival or event. Holiday letters are friendly type of letters and informal in nature. It follows formal structure only when it is written by businessmen to their clients for marinating a healthy personal and professional relationship.

As evident it is because of the timing of the letter that it is referred as a holiday letter.
