Bus Conductor is a person who has a range of responsibilities, which include collecting fares, issuing tickets, helping passengers with baggage, advising on destinations and ensuring the safety of passengers. There is also some paperwork involved, for instance when recording fares, checking timetables and counting money. In some of the areas, the duties of driver and conductor are combined into one job.
Candidates have to go through various rules and regulations depending on the state to state in the country for becoming a Bus Conductor.
Educational Qualification
They must 10+2 pass from any recognized board/university
License Requirement
They should hold a valid Conductor’s Licence. However, special relaxation for women candidates is given to obtain conductor licence within 3 months after the declaration of final result.

Note:
Physical Requirement for Physically Handicapped Persons
The persons with not less than 40% disability (based on disability certificate issued by the competent authority) and holding valid conductor licence should apply against the vacancies reserved for this category. The vacancies of physically handicapped persons will be adjusted against the category to which they belong.
Processing Fee (non-refundable)
It is For General and OBC candidates Rs. 400 and for SC and Ex-Servicemen candidates Rs. 200; but it may vary from place to place. No processing fee will be charged from physically handicapped persons. The processing fee will be deposited in any branch of State Bank of India through printed Challan online.
Candidates have to follow the given steps for becoming a Bus Conductor-
Step 1
After passing their 12th class candidates have to wait for an advertisement regarding posts by the states. After that eligible candidates can apply for the post.
Step 2
All Ex-servicemen who fulfil eligibility criteria will be called for written test.
Written Test
After scrutiny, the eligible candidates on the basis of percentage of marks obtained in 10+2, the examination will be shortlisted in the ratio of 01:20 of the vacancies in each category for the written test. In case there is more than one candidate at the cut-off point then all such candidates having same cut-off marks will be called for the written test. Tentatively the written test will be held after that and information in this regard will be made available on the website at least 2 weeks in advance.
Syllabus for Written Test
The written test (objective type having multiple choice answers) will be based on-
(i) Numerical Ability
(ii) General Knowledge & General Behaviour
(iii) Knowledge of Traffic rules and First Aid etc.
(iv) There will be no negative marking.
Duration of Written Test
The duration of the written test will be of 02 hours.
Final Selection
The final selection will be made on the basis of the merit in the written test. In case two or more candidates secure equal marks at the cutoff point, the candidate older in age will be considered for selection. There will be no interview. Waiting lists will also be prepared.

Bus Conductors spend most of their time on their feet. They walk about on the moving vehicle, which may be tightly packed. They must be able to balance without holding on and climb up and down stairs in the case of double-decker vehicles. They may have to load luggage, pushchairs and wheelchairs.
They have many opportunities in large towns or cities, schools and both private or government services. Many companies run buses operated by one person only and therefore the number of openings for conductors has declined in recent years.
Bus Conductors can earn a monthly salary of Rs. 5,910 to Rs. 20,200 + Grade Pay Rs. 2,400 (initial start of Rs. 9,880) plus usual allowances as admissible to concerned state administration employees from time to time.
