Cook (Rasoiya) is a person who helps chefs or prepares and cooks food in fast food restaurants, houses, schools, hotels, Dabas, birthday parties, marriages, and kitty parties with a limited menu. The duties of these cooks are limited to the preparation of a few basic items and normally involve operating large-volume single-purpose cooking equipment. The Cook controls the pace of the food orders and his/her productivity level sets the tone for the ticket-flowing process. Usually, the Cook is trained to work the Expediter position also. So, if there is a slow period that requires only one person on the line, the Cook position will fill that role. You may be cross-trained to work all three positions, which will increase your value to our company and allow you to work more shifts.

 

Cook Eligibility

The minimum educational qualification for becoming a Cook is 10th or 12th class; it means a certificate curse in Cookery.

 

Cook Required Skills

  • Cooks should have previous experience working in a kitchen providing meals for large numbers.
  • They also should have the ability to prepare and serve well-presented and attractive meals to individual requirements.
  • They should have a positive attitude and commitment to providing nutritious meals and offer a range of choices including to those with specific dietary requirements.
  • They should have the ability to supervise the kitchen staff and the ability to work on their own initiative.
  • They also have the ability to work as part of a team and promote harmonious relationships.

 

How to become Cook?

One has to follow the below-given steps for becoming a Cook-

Step 1

After passing their 10th or 12th class they have to take admission in one of the certificates of Diploma courses in any of the recognised institutes. Admission to these courses is given on the basis of their aggregate marks in earlier classes.

Some of the places like food restaurants, houses, hotels, Dabas, birthday parties, and Bachelor’s Degrees or Master’s Degrees also are credited for offering jobs to them.

 

Cook Job Description

The duties they perform are given below-

  • Participation in Staff Meetings or participation in Training Activities
  • Participation in Staff Supervision and Appraisal and participation in Quality Assurance Systems
  • Take responsibility for personal development by keeping abreast of developments in the field of caring for older people
  • Delight our Guests by providing quality and timely prepared foods

  • Perform opening procedures and organize and prepare for your shift

Cook Career Prospects

Most cooks work full time and some of them work in shifts which often include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedules for cooks in school cafeterias and some institutional cafeterias usually are more regular. Cooks working in schools may work just during the school year, typically for 9 or 10 months. Similarly, some resort establishments offer seasonal employment only.

They can also start their own work like Dabas etc. here they can earn more than a job.

Earnings of Cooks vary greatly by region and type of employer. Earnings usually are highest in fine-dining restaurants and luxury hotels, which are often located in major metropolitan and resort areas. They are given an average monthly salary ranging from Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 10,000. They can earn more than this after having an experience with the passage of time.
