Model as a profession is quite unique in the sense that it requires no minimum age or minimum qualification, the very basic requirement of any other conventional profession. The model can be anybody from a 2-year kid on a parlay G pack to a 75 years old man of MDH masala pack. With the spreading of the mass media in the form of print, electronics and internet to every corner of the world and increase in the consumerism with the developing of the economies throughout the world.
There are cut-throat competitions in the top consumer brands of the world to reach the masses through these ways. Here lies the base for the demand of the models – projected superhuman beings perfect in everything whether it is brain or the beauty- A model can be anybody who has the appeal to attract the people towards itself by way of his physical appearance, intelligence, voice, presentation or his deeds in a particular area. But even these personalities who have something to present have to be made presentable and it is done by specialized courses.
Although this seems to be a glamorous field and it indeed is, but there is a lot of hard work behind it. A model becomes a cult figure in the masses once it becomes famous. Masses start believing in him and the products and services endorsed by him. Thus it becomes the responsibility of a Model that as far as possible he should be fair in his presentation and endorsements. To some extent, it is agreeable that a Model is a professional and he has to present or endorse whatever is shown or asked to him. Although, to be educated is a positive point, but as such, there is no such specific qualification required to be in this profession

There is no restriction with regard to the age of the aspirant one can be a 10 days old infant or a century old human being to be a model

To become a Model one has to follow the below-given steps:
Step 1
Although this is such a profession in which one gets on job training and there is no such formal training format for being a model, yet one can join short-term training courses running by some top models of yesteryears in some big cities like Delhi and Mumbai for honing their skills to some extent.
After getting the requisite training about how to care your beauty, make-up, hair styling, diet and exercise and, how to walk and carry yourself elegantly while doing an assignment. These training programs also include guidance on how to make a contract and other technicalities. Guidance on making a portfolio also forms a part of such training programs.
Step 2
For making an entry into the profession of a model is to prepare a portfolio –a set of photographs taken by some professional photographer. These especially taken photographs can be shown to an agency, providing suitable models according to requirements, or a fashion designer.
Another way to enter into this career is to apply for the contests sponsored by magazines, TV channels, private promoters, cloth manufactures, cosmetic companies etc and participating in beauty pageants.
They promote the products and services in television commercials. Also, wear designers' clothing for runway fashion shows. Model accessories, such as handbags, shoes, and jewellery, and promote beauty products, including fragrances and cosmetics. Pose for workers taking photos or creating paintings or sculptures.
Once a model gains success, then there are so many other opportunities available for them. Being a model and in limelight helps one to enter in the field of acting through T.V or Cinema. If one has some acting skill then he can make it big on the silver screen and make big fortunes both in terms of name and fame along with a lot of monetary remunerations. So there is no dearth of opportunity for a hardworking and dedicated person in this field. One can earn from a few thousand to million dollars in this profession depending upon one’s skills and right use of opportunity falling into his way.
These are no fixed salary or income in the field of modelling. It all depends upon the saleability and market value of a particular model. However, some corporate house may contract with the model for a particular time on a particular fixed payment. Whatever it may be, the young one's pursuing modelling as a career should keep in mind that once established there is handsome income for them in waiting.
An established model who is consistently on the popularity charts earns anything between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000 per fashion Show. Low budget shows pay models somewhere around Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000. Print ads pay according to the number of photographs used. Magazine spreads and billboard advertisements also pay well - reputed magazines paying around Rs. 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per photograph.
