Postman or Post-woman are professionals who collect, sort and deliver mail to private homes, shops and business premises within a particular area. They are sometimes called post-persons or postal-workers.

They also deliver post to addresses on a set route on a daily basis. Many postmen start early and work into the afternoon. The job is ideally suited to someone who likes to be outdoors and enjoys walking or cycling. It is important to have a friendly attitude and to be well-present while on duty in dealing with peoples. Sometimes, they are part of the logistics sector because they keep constant contact between business and people. These workers can also collect letters from places of work, post offices and post boxes within a district. They walk to deliver letters and also drive bicycles and cars depending on location and package size.

 

Postman Eligibility

Educational Qualification
Candidates those who want to apply for these posts should be 10th class pass from a recognized Board.

Age Limits
Candidates those who are applying for this post should be in between the age of 18 to 27 years.

 

Postman Required Skills

  • Postmen should be able to carry mail pouches; able to lift and carry mailbags and able to push trolleys along with an enthusiastic early in the morning.
  • They must be able to work well in a team as well as being motivated individually; literate and numerate; able to type efficiently; physically fit and a good communicator.
  • They also must be able to hold mail for customers who are away from delivery locations; and the ability to return to the post office with mail collected from homes, businesses, and public mailboxes.
  • They should be able to leave notices telling patrons where to collect mail that could not be delivered; answer customers' questions about postal services and regulations.
  • They also possess following qualities such as having the suitable physical condition; math skills; interpersonal abilities; being reliable and trustworthy; good memory and ability to work in all weather conditions; polite.

 

How to become a Postman?

One has to follow the given steps for becoming a Postman.

Step 1
After passing 10th class willing candidates can wait for the Recruitment Notification of the concerned state.

Step 2
Application Form
Application Form can be obtained from all the Head Post Offices and Identified offices of the Circle on cash payment. And they can also apply online through the website (www.indiapost.gov.in).

Selection Procedure
Selection of the candidates will be made on the basis of their performance in Aptitude Test.

There shall be 100 marks aptitude test for candidates on the given topics-

25 questions on GK, Reasoning and Analytical Ability (MCQs)
