About The Global Open University

The Global Open University (TGOU), Nagaland is a Private University specialising in open and distance education programmes. The courses are vocational and job oriented and some of these programmes are new and belong to emerging fields of careers in the north east. These courses have are meant to solve the problems of unemployment in the North East. Apart from distance education, the university is running a regular hotel management course, in the main campus. The Global Open University has been established by the Government of Nagaland, legislated by the Nagaland State Legislative Assembly under The Global Open University Act 2006 (Act 3 of 2006). The University is operating from Dimapur in a Campus allotted by the Government of Nagaland since April 2007. The Global Open University Nagaland is a joint venture between the Government of Nagaland and the International Charity - World Institution Building Programme (WIBP) incorporated as a Public Charitable Trust. This is a unique example of Public-Private Partnership (PPP). While the State Government keeps on giving Grants-in-Aid by way of sponsoring the students from Nagaland by paying their fee, the Sponsoring Agency for the University i.e. the World Institution Building Programme (WIBP).

WIBP is a public charitable trust based in Delhi. WIBP is also running other educational institutes like - Quality Institute of India, International Institute of Management, Indian Institute of Applied Psychology etc. TGOU is functioning from the State Government owned campus leased out to the University where as 83 acres of land has already been acquired for the purposes of the main campus of the University.  TGOUN has 3 campuses with headquarters and main campus at Dimapur and other campuses at Wokha and Kohima. The University campus at Wokha is situated at Orchid Hills and the Kohima campus is situated at Pezielietsie Colony on High School Road. The University has a built up area of 18,600 sq. ft. It has facilities like laboratories, hostels, staff quarters, administrative blocks, auditorium, seminar rooms, guest houses, garden, ethno-botanical parks, sports grounds, computer centre, canteen facilities, information and documentation centre etc. The university is recognised by the Distance Education Council. TGOUN has been found to be pioneer in bringing out different important publications including multi-volume Encyclopaedias on new as well as emerging subjects. These Encyclopaedias include 10 volume Encyclopaedia of Intellectual Property Rights; 10 volume Encyclopaedia of Bioinformatics; 12 Volume Encyclopaedia of Total Quality Management etc.

Facilities at TGOUN

Library – TGOUN has a library which is spread over an area of around 2500 sq. ft. It has a collection of about 15355 Books and about 5030 Journals. It also provides other facilities as well.

Wi-Fi - The entire campus has a Wi-Fi environment.

Laboratories – The University has few laboratories.

Some of these are:

  • Kitchen equipped with latest equipment relating to cookery and bakery
  • Computer Centre equipped with internet and latest computers / printers.
  • Training Restaurant Laboratory with proper serving tables and cutlery items

Sports – The University offers all types of outdoor and indoor games and sports including halls for yoga and meditation.
