About Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences - ILBS

Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) is a Unique Medical Research University dedicated to patient management, teaching and research. ILBS is also a mono-superspeciality hospital for liver and biliary diseases. It has been established by the Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi as an Autonomous Super-speciality Institute, under the Societies Registration Act - 1860, New Delhi. It has been granted Deemed-to-be-University status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 under de-novo category through the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. De-novo means an institution devoted to innovations in teaching and research in unique and emerging areas of knowledge, so determined by eminent peers of the academic community in the concerned disciplines. The foundation stone of ILBS was laid in 2003. The first phase of ILBS was built by the public works department (PWD). The first phase was completed in 2009. The formal inauguration of the hospital took place on 14th January, 2010 by the Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Shiela Dixit. The second phase of ILBS is being constructed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and was completed in 2011. In the year 2013, the institute started following MCI approved DM courses.

ILBS offers training programs for super-specialties related to Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Sciences through the Post-Doctoral 3 year courses: DM in Hepatology, Paediatric Hepatology, Organ Transplant Anaesthesia and Critical Care; and M.Ch. in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery. These degree programmes are duly approved by the Medical Council of India, apart from these degree courses, several short-term training programs and observer-ship program are also offered. The mission of ILBS is to become a dedicated international centre of excellence for the diagnosis, management and advanced training and research in the field of liver and biliary diseases. The institute and its vision were conceived by eminent academicians and visionaries to provide world-class training and teaching, including excellent patient care and cutting-edge research for curing liver and biliary diseases.

Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences Facilities

Hostel - The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi is a fully residential complex. It is compulsory for all resident students to reside in the campus.

Research - Research provides provides training to the doctoral students and postdoctoral research scholars. The training focuses on understanding the concepts of modern biology with emphasis on virology, oncology, immunology, genomics, proteomics, cell and molecular biology.

Stipend - As per the rules of the Institute, Monthly stipend will be paid to the candidates admitted to the DM/M. Ch course for 36 months, PDCC for 12 months and Ph. D for 12 months after taking their monthly attendance into consideration. Students enrolled for the certificate course renal replacement therapy six month course will receive the stipend as applicable for the Junior Residents as per policy of ILBS.
