The Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar university, Lucknow is one of the youngest central universities in the country. The university is named after Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. Being one of the youngest central university, the university aims to promote advance knowledge by providing higher standards of instructional and research facilities.The jurisdiction of this residential University is over the entire state of Uttar Pradesh. All courses offered by the University are postgraduate, innovative and non-traditional.

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University was established in Lucknow in 1996 as Central University (By an Act of Parliament 1994) with the objects of promoting advance knowledge by instructional and research facilities in science, key and frontier areas of technology and other allied disciplines. This University is the Post-Graduate and research University & main objective of this University is to promote professional studies, Inter-disciplinary studies, research and development activities.

The University comprises the following schools

Location - The campus Vidya Vihar is located off Rae Bareli Road, about 10 kms south of the Charbagh Railway Station, Lucknow

Facilities

Hostel - The University Boys hostel is centrally located in the University campus near to the South city gate of the campus. The hostel is provided with 120 spacious and well furnished rooms which can accommodate near about 200 students. The hostel has Mess facility and recreation facilities like TV room, indoor games and scenic rose garden in the premises of the Hostel. The hostel has built in residence for Hostel Warden and office of Hostel warden. The Hostel provides accommodation for the students (boys) of M.A/ M.Sc/ M.Phil /Ph.D of the University. The rooms are allotted on the twin sharing basis. The reservation in the Hostel is as per the University reservation policy.

The Hostel follows the University academic semester system (i.e., Jan- Jun, Jul - Dec; two semesters annually). All selected students of the University who need hostel accommodation will be required to apply in the prescribed application form obtainable from the Hostel office. The admission in the hostel is in accordance with the merit secured in the Entrance Examination held by the University in the respective courses of the study. Students who are given admission in the hostel are required to join the mess. The mess offers simple meals at moderate rates which may vary from time to time depending on the cost of the meals served

Library - The professional foundation for the library services of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow was laid in January 1998. The library is situated at the first floor of the Block # 4 of the Administrative building having an area of about 500 sq. mts. The library acts as the main learning resource centre of the University to supplement educational and information needs of the faculty and students of the university and provides information services and facilities to meet the requirements of the University's teaching, training and research programmes. The library services are also extended to non-teaching staff and visitors. It has 8,500 books, 500 Reference Books apart from journals, magazines etc. Library has access to more than 1800 e-journals and J-Gate Custom Content for Consortium (JCCC) through UGC- Infonet Consortium. Net Coaching - The University offers the following programs to the development of SC/ST and Minority students:

1. UGC Remedial Coaching Programme: Under RCP additional coaching will be provided to the students who face difficulties in learning the subject concerned and English language. In addition, it will conduct classes for personality development.
2. UGC NET Coaching Programme: It offers special coaching for joint CSIR - UGC NET examinations which are being conducted twice in a year.
3. Coaching for Entry in Services: This programme offers special coaching for Civil Services (IAS/IPS/IFS), State Services, SSC, RRB and other competitive examinations which are being conducted by State and Central Government.

Bank - The University has a full fledge branch of Canara Bank located in the administrative block.

Medical Facility - University provides medical and health facilities to its members.

Post Office - The University has Post Office located in the administrative block.

Information & Guidance Bureau - In order to build the career, the students need to know what are the options available and where and how they can achieve it. In order to cater these precise needs of the students, the I. & G.B. came into existence since 27.08.07 and is committed to do the needful for the benefit of the students, alumni and scholars of the campus.

Poor Students Aid Fund - For helping the poor students, the University has established the Poor Students Aid Fund.

University Gymnasium - University has established a Gymnasium. All the students, faculty members/officers and employees of the University holding valid identity card are entitled to use the gym facility.

Placement Cell - It assists in placing candidates to the right type of job

Extra Curricular Activities - The University encourages the students to participate in the activities like outdoor sports, cultural programmes and community service activities. The University makes special efforts to bring about all- round development of the personality of the students. It also lays due emphasis on inculcation of moral, spiritual and ethical values.
