About Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University

Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University is Chhattisgarh's largest and oldest institution of higher education, founded in 1964, and named after the first chief minister of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh. The University has a sprawling campus in the western part of the capital of Chhattisgarh, Raipur. The campus of University is spread in 207 acres of land. There are Twenty-Nine teaching departments in the University. Out of which six departments buildings have been constructed recently. A variety of self financed courses have been initiated in some departments. The total number of employees is 700, who provide the administrative support at different levels. Attracted by the opportunity to study and conduct advanced research with renowned professors and fellow scholars in one of the Chhattisgarh's most dynamic cities, students also come from the neighbouring States. There are 5000 students enrolled for variety of courses offered by the departments who are steered under the guidance of more than 100 faculty members. Jurisdiction of RSU covers entire central and southern part of Chhattisgarh. There are 180 educational institutions affiliated to the University. In the academic year 2005-06, about 1,25,000 students were enrolled, both for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The University plays a major role in the educational, cultural and economic life of the region. The university campus also houses a building including a hostel for All India Services Pre-Examination Centre for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and a girls' hostel for post-metric SC and ST students. The University offers various value added services to it's students for their benefit .
                     
Location and Transportation - The University headquarters are located in the western part of Raipur city. It is well connected by air, rail and road between Howrah and Mumbai, and lies on NH-6. The campus is located at about 10 kilometres from the airport and about 4 kilometres from the railway station. The University is about 5 km from the Raipur Railway Station and of about 15 km from the Raipur airport. The transportation to the university both from the Airport and the Railway Station is easily available. Raipur can be accessed conveniently from most of the metropolitan cities of India. It has a domestic airport. There are daily direct flights from New Delhi and Mumbai. In addition there are four flights/week from Chennai. It is also indirectly connected with Kolkata via Nagpur and Mumbai.
Raipur is an important railway junction (Indian Railways website http://www.indianrail.gov.in). It is located about 300 kilometres from Nagpur in the East on the Mumbai-Kolkata (Howrah) trunk line.

Facilities

Library - It is having computer network facility with VSAT connectivity. Seven computers with this facility have been dedicated to readers only for e-reading. Library has a separate reprographic section equipped with digital photocopiers, scanners and also microfilms reader. The library possesses 102122 purchased books, 23768 gift books, 7637 World Bank Publications, 21061 thesis and dissertations are available in the library and currently subscribe 305 journals (236 Indian and 69 foreign research publications). It also subscribes 14 news paper (Regional & National) and 28 popular magazines. The library was selected as one among eleven University libraries in India for computerization and automation under INFLIBNET program of UGC. Creation of computerized database of all the books available in library has been completed and made available to the readers in the form of Online Public Access Catalogue. A total of 320 seating arrangements are presently available in four floors of library with two independent reading halls for 'textbooks' and ‘research periodicals' respectively.

Computer Centre - School of Studies in Computer Science is working  both as an academic department and  central computing facility for the university academic community. Under UGC-INFONET Program, RSU has been granted a very advanced SCPC-VSAT 512 kpbs bandwidth connectivity having powerful satellite communication technique, which is  facilitating  Internet and access of over 2000 academic  e-journals with the help of INLIBNET CENTRE, AHMEDABAD to  RSU. Server for the same is installed in So.S. in Computer Science & I.T. department. This department is looking after technical administration of VSAT facilities.The  University teachers, research scholars and  students are being benefited by all these facilities. Pt.Ravishankar Shukla University has  distributed the advantage of VSAT internet connectivity to various departments of the university. The university is now equipped with  modern fibre optics campus wide network and all the teaching and administrative departments of University are interconnected.

Hostels - The university provides three hostels one for girls and two for boys. These hostels are located inside the university campus. Only those students who live outside Raipur are eligible to take admission. Facilities provided by the hostels include a common mess hall, TV for each wings , telephone and aqua guard for pure drinking water, beds, tables, outdoor games and indoor games.

Sports - Every year various sports events are performed in the university. Many of the events are conducted on national level. Students from all over India come for the athletic contest held in the university. In these events our students have also won many prizes.

Employment Bureau - The University Employment Bureau and Consultancy Centre, has been providing unlimited services to the students of this University and its affiliated colleges. The principal objective is to provide employment information and guidance to the students.

Career Counselling and Placement Cell - The university has set up a career counselling and placement cell, consisting of five senior faculty member of university. Professor R.P. Das, Director Institute of Management is chairing the cell and thus coordinating the related activities with the support from other teaching departments.
