National Institute of Technology, Nagaland (NITN) is an institute of higher learning specialising in technical education. It is one of the thirty NITs in India, established by the Ministry of Human Resource & Development (MHRD). NIT, Nagaland was set up by the Government of India in 2009, as part of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2007–2012), primarily for enhancing the scope of technical education in the north-eastern states of the country. The Institute started functioning under the mentorship of NIT Silchar in 2010, after two years of which the permanent campus of NIT Nagaland came up in Chumukedima, Dimapur. The academic activities commenced from September 2012 in the permanent campus.
How to reach Dimapur
I. By Air - Dimapur can be reached by boarding a direct flight either from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati or Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. NIT Nagaland is situated at a short distance of only 13 kilometers from the Dimapur Airport.
II. By Rail - NIT Nagaland is located at a distance of 19 kilometres from the Dimapur railway station. Dimapur is well connected to all the major cities of the country, having numerous direct trains from all the metro cities.
III. By Road - NIT Nagaland can be reached from either the Dimapur railway station or Dimapur airport by taxi in around 20-25 minutes.

Facilities at NIT, Nagaland
Hostels - NIT Nagaland has 8 hostels, 6 are for boys and 2 for girls.
Some of the hostels are named after mountains of significance in the locality, these hostels are -
Smart Classrooms - The smart classrooms are equipped with interactive projectors and digital sound system to aid the teaching-learning process. It also has facilities like live video streaming, video conferencing, webinars, interactive boards, file and desktop sharing ability.
Central Library – It has a collection of more than 7,200 books in various disciplines. The library also has more than 1400 e-books on various subjects and latest collections of periodicals, magazines and newspapers. Non-book materials include NPTEL videos, CDs/CD-ROMs, etc.
Scholarships – The university students receive scholarships from various organizations and government bodies.

Information Technology Infrastructure – The University has I.T. Infrastructure which includes data, voice and video connectivity in the campus. This ensures access to high-speed internet in the campus and connectivity in the entire campus. LAN network and wireless access connects the various sections of the campus viz., administrative building, academic and residential (staff quarters, Hostels, Guest House, etc.). The campus is interconnected with 100 Mbps LAN facility.
Computer Centre – The centre provides the required hardware and software, internet access, e-mailing facility and Intra-college lecture notes to the students and researchers.
Simulation Laboratory - The Institute has simulation labs with latest industry-oriented designing software namely Cadence, Multisim, Labview, MAT-LAB, Arduino, Quartus, Keil μVision. Experts in these domains from the industry are arranged frequently to imbue the students with vital concepts and their latest applications.
Bank - The Institute has a satellite branch of State Bank of India (SBI) Chumukedima with ATM facility.
Sports Facilities - The Institute is equipped with sufficient sports facilities for several indoor and outdoor games. Indoor games include Badminton, Table-Tennis, Carom and Chess and outdoor games include cricket, football.
Student’s Clubs - Student's club organises various events and maintains an eco-friendly environment in the Institute. Some of the clubs are - Eco Club, Robotics Club, Literary Club etc.
Medical Centre - The Institute has a medical centre with doctor’s visitation on rotation and facilities equivalent of district primary health centre.
Training and Placement Cell - The cell trains the students in all areas of Science and Technology, upgrades their soft skills and technical skills. The cell also organises personality and skill development programmes, communication evaluation sessions, resume, group discussions and interviews.
