In growing metropolitan environment roads are congested, air is not fresh, there is honking all around us. There is vast change in the traffic around us. All around us we can we can see the smoke rings around street lights in the night, we see pollution fog  instead of winter fog and at night the sky is lacking as much stars clear and bright as before. To make changes in the environment around us, Bus Day was first  observed in the month of February. It is an event calling all the citizens of Bengaluru / Bangalore to use Public Transport on 4th of every month for all their commuting needs within the city. Though, the day has been marked for 4th of every month, the dates sometimes do vary as per the need se. It is an event for all citizens of Bangalore, as well as for corporations existing in Bangalore. In other words all the individuals, companies, govt organizations, auto rickshaws, BMTC, Bangalore police and everyone who lives in Bangalore and feels responsible for the environment of the city.

Bus Day History

Bus Day as a day long event promoting Public Transport in the city of Bengaluru, was started on February 4th, 2010. Bus Day is a public transport promotion campaign undertaken by concerned citizens of Bengaluru, supported by BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation), Traffic Police, ORRCA (Outer Ring Road Companies Association), several members of Praja.in and others. The idea behind Bus Day is to observe the changes which can be brought in the city in areas of environment, traffic situation, health of individuals and individual perception. By December 2014, BMTC has successfully completed 4 years of Bus Day journey.

Bus Day Events and Activities

  • Supporters of this day do not use our private vehicle for one day.They use public transport, walk a little more, and tolerate waiting time.
  • BMTC makes arrangements to operate all the schedules without any cancellation and also to extend the operation of more than 1500 General shift schedules beyond their normal schedule timing to 22 hours on this day thereby adding additional trips to accommodate additional demand.
  • Everyone help others to use public transport.
  • Companies permit all employees to come to the office by bus; Auto Rickshaws.
  • The Traffic Police takes special care of pedestrians on the day.
