About Nirma University

Nirma University, Ahmedabad was established in the year 2003 as a statutory university under the Gujarat State Act at the initiative of the Nirma Education & Research Foundation (NERF). The foundation was established by the well-known industrialist and philanthropist Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel (Chairman, Nirma Ltd.) in 1994 with the objective of imparting the best in education and building a strong foundation for the future generations of India. The visionary, Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel Chairman, Nirma Group of companies is the Chairman of NERF & President of the University. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has included Nirma University in the list of recognized Universities Under Section2(f) of the UGC Act. Nirma University is a confederation of Institutes and Faculties.  The University functions with a relatively small central administration, and with central bodies consisting of officers and academic personnel of the University and the University's governance structure is essentially democratic. The campus is spread over a sprawling area of 110 acres providing world class infrastructure in form of auditoriums, seminar rooms, class rooms, computer laboratories, library, hostels, canteens, etc facilitate teaching-learning processes that fascinate and delight students, faculty, corporate visitors, foreigners and parents.

Facilities

Hostels - The University campus has two massive hostel buildings catering to the post graduate students’ residential needs.  

Central Library Resource Centre - It is well stocked with over 79,000 books, 19 online databases, 787 print periodicals, more than 7000 online journals, over 376 videos and more than 4700 electronic media like CDs & Floppies, the centre houses industry relevant reports, standards, annual reports, magazines, newsletters, etc. An automated set-up with user friendly portal providing a single point access to e-resources, the library is rich in resources in the subjects of business, technology, pharmacy, sciences, law etc.

Computing Facilities - The central computer facilities consists of 27 servers & 1200+ systems, which are interconnected by optic cables and 8 MBPS leased line internet connectivity, software for various engineering applications such as Pro-Eng., STAAD Pro, ANSYS, MASTERCAM, MATLAB, HYSIS etc.

Research Facilities
- All the programmes of the Institute which require Research activities have well equipped laboratories which not only cater to UG and PG programmes but also provide testing and consultancy.

There are central facilities which include sophisticated instrument laboratory equipped with:

  1. Supercritical fluid chromatography.
  2. HPLC.
  3. HPTLC.
  4. Fluorescence Spectrometer.
  5. SFC.
  6. FTIR.
  7. Fluorimeter.
  8. Microcalorimeter etc.

The department has been associated with an academically and professionally active faculty.

Transportation - For day scholars the University operates a fleet of buses that ply from all corners of the city.  

Canteen - The campus also provides hygienic canteen facilities catering to the all students and staff of the University.

Sports
- The outdoor sports facilities include cricket, basketball, football etc.

Foreign Students - 15% of intake in each programme is exclusively reserved for the admission of PIO (Person of Indian Origin) & Foreign Students. Of this about one-third i.e.,5% is reserved for the Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries and South East Asia.

Placement - Industry Institute Interaction Cell braces the support to students for getting ahead in technical career by providing them jobs in desired field. The department maintains close ties with Industries and Research Organizations. Students are motivated by exposing them  to industry environment through various modes such as lectures by experts from industry, industrial visits, and industry based projects on a regular basis. The placement of students of Electrical Engineering Programme is almost 100 % in core as well as other companies and the average salary package remains fairly good in the competitive market. Some of the industries/R&D organizations where students are placed are: Infosys, TCS, L&T, IOC, Cognizant, Essar, Syntel, Tata Power, Secure Meters, TCEL, Torrent Power, Motorola etc.

Achievements

  • ‘Financial Express’, Nirma University 5th best university among the private universities that were established after year 2000 in the areas of placements, international relations, industry interface, intellectual capital, infrastructure etc in 15th June 2009 issue.
