About Auro University

AURO University is a Private University which is inspired by the vision and teachings of Sri Aurobindo Ghosh and The Divine Mother. Auro University has been established under Gujarat Private Universities Act 2009. It is also known as AURO University of Hospitality and Management. The University has been established by Mr. Hasmukh (H.P.) Rama of JHM Hotels. JHM Hotels has partnered with Interstate Hotels and Resorts, USA to create India's first third party hotel management company. JHM Interstate Hotels manages leading brands such as Starwood, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Wyndham, Carlson and Choice Hotels. Within a 5-kilometer radius of AURO, there are a number of malls, multiplexes, restaurants, shopping and recreation zones. The campus features landscaped lawns, boulevard and courtyards, multiple water bodies, and also a nursery equipped with a poly-house to serve the campus.

Location

Surat is about 300 kilometres north of Mumbai and 273 km south of Ahmedabad.

The city is connected to the National Highway 8 through a 16 km connector highway.

The campus is located at a distance of about 15 kms. away from Surat station and 7 kms. from the airport.

Education Delivery Method - The University encourages and promotes learning on a 20:30:50 principle, where lectures constitute 20 percent of the delivery (Hear); visuals 30 percent of the learning methods and experience 50 percent.

In order to achieve its objective of focused learning and holistic development, the University uses a variety of knowledge delivery methods:

  • Lectures – These are interactive and students work with their professors to get new insights in the subject area, on which they can build their own bridges to higher learning.
  • Discussions - Discussions are a platform for students to be creative and critical with old and new ideas. Besides developing consensus on various business issues, discussion groups lead to innovative problem solving and, ultimately, to success.
  • Business Simulations - These provide students an opportunity to understand real life business scenarios and solve business challenges in a controlled environment.
  • Case Studies - Real case studies challenge students to find creative solutions to complex business problems.
  • Role Play - Assuming various roles, as in real business, is the key to understanding and learning in the MBA program. Students are challenged to make strategic decisions through role-plays, and to analyze the impact of these decisions on the business and its stakeholders.
  • Team Work - Positive collaboration is critical in the work environment, and sidelining politics and understanding how to incorporate and balance personalities is the key to success.
  • Field Trips - Field trips provide an opportunity to students to test their in-class learning in real life situations as well as to understand the functional diversity in the workplace.

Learning Resource Centre - It provides the perfect environment for group and independent study. The centre has a vast collection of books, magazines, offline and online journals, as well as a comprehensive audio and video collection. The centre uses Libsys Software, which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all the library activities. It is an integral part of the University and provides a quiet, comfortable and friendly environment that enables learning and advancement of knowledge. The centre has a collection of the best books on different subjects such as business management, hotel management, information technology, general education, philosophy, economics, and other related areas of study. Users can browse the library collection through the Online Public Access Catalogue.

Exchange Programs – The University facilitates student and faculty exchange with the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (UML). These provide exposure to current day knowledge and international practices. Students completing the BA program at AU (AURO University), in accordance with the minimum standards set by the MSB at UML, will normally be admitted to that department at UML as juniors. Students who do not meet the aforesaid minimum standards will be considered for admission to UML on a case-by-case basis.

Global Exposure Tour – It facilitates students of AURO University, enrolled in any program, a unique experience and understanding of business from a global perspective.

Annual Leadership Challenge Program - AURO University organizes Annual Leadership Challenge Program for existing students. The event is designed in such a way that it challenges the endurance, strength, balance of an individual and how he/she could cope up with tremendous pressure of the corporate world, be innovative and creative in taking decisions, how to lead a team etc. The program includes team building and leadership events like Traffic Jam, River Crossing, Build the Bridge, Rhythm Challenge, View Pointer, Negotiation Puzzle Game etc. The leadership programs aims at enhancing social relations and clarifying team members’ roles, as well as solving task and interpersonal problems that affect team functioning.

Scholarships

I) The Rama Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement - This scholarship is available to all under graduate applicants who have displayed exemplary academic performance

II) AURO University Financial Aid – This is a Need-Based Financial Aid and is meant for only those talented applicants who demonstrably face significant difficulties in raising sufficient finances for the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs. Priority will be given to candidates with a marked socio-economic disadvantage.

Parameters for the aid

  • Outstanding students who have scored a minimum of 70% marks in their qualifying exams, who come from financially challenged backgrounds, and whose gross family income is below Rs. 3,00,000/- per annum
  • The amount of financial aid will depend on a verification of their need, and the academic promise the students display
  • At its maximum, the funding may cover tuition fees, book charges as well as the costs of room and board
  • The Financial Aid Committee will determine the annual quantum of this aid per student based on its assessment of each application submitted
  • The total financial aid available per year will be as per the amount allocated in the approved annual university budget, which may vary from year to year
  • There is no guarantee that the university will be able to support all eligible applicants
  • At the time of final selection by the Financial Aid Committee, preference will be given to candidates residing in rural areas, and those who have limited access to loans

III) AURO Merit Scholarships for Post Graduate Program Students – This scholarship is provided to students who meet the below mentioned criteria’s:

  • Students who have scored between 60% and less than 70% marks in their graduation examination will receive a scholarship of 15% on the first semester tuition fee amount
  • Students who have scored between 70% and less than 80% marks in their graduation examination will receive a scholarship of 25% on the first semester tuition fee amount
  • Students who have scored between 80% and less than 90% marks in their graduation examination will receive a scholarship of 35% on the first semester tuition fee amount
  • Students who have scored 90% and above mark in their graduation examination will receive a scholarship of 50% on the first semester tuition fee amount
  • University toppers will receive a scholarship of 100% on the first semester tuition fee amount
  • The scholarship from second semester onwards will be governed by the University’s Student Performance based Scholarship Programme

IV) Scholarship for students in Undergraduate Programs

  • Students who have scored between 70% and less than 80% marks in their last qualifying examinations will receive a scholarship of 15% on the first semester tuition fee amount. In case of International degree, equivalence certificate will be required from the competent regulatory body.
  • Students who have scored between 80% and less than 90% marks their last qualifying examination will receive a scholarship of 25% on the first semester tuition fee amount.
  • Students who have scored between 90% and less than 95% marks their last qualifying examination will receive a scholarship of 35% on the first semester tuition fee amount.
  • Students who have scored 95% and above mark in their last qualifying examination will receive a scholarship of 50% on the first semester tuition fee amount.
  • The scholarship from second semester onwards will be governed by the University’s Student Performance based Scholarship Programme.

V) Sports Scholarship - AURO University encourages the meritorious students who have excelled in the sports.

The category of sports scholarship as follows:-

  • Students who have represented the State level will be given 5% relaxation in the qualifying scholarship marks in the first semester.
  • Students who have represented the National level will be given 10% relaxation in the qualifying scholarship marks in the first semester.
  • This is applicable for admissions to the Under Graduate or Post Graduate Program as the case may be, as refereed above.
  • The scholarship from second semester onwards will be governed by the University’s Student Performance based Scholarship Programme.

VI) University’s Student Performance Based Scholarship Programme - AURO University has planned to introduce the scholarship programme to those students who could not get any scholarship at the time of joining the university but have done fairly well in the semester examination.

The scholarship from second semester onwards will be governed by the grades obtained in the University’s semester examination which is as under:

  • If student’s grade is B: - will be eligible for 15% scholarship on the semester tuition fee.
  • If student’s grade is B+:- will be eligible for 25% scholarship on the semester tuition fee.
  • If student’s grade is between A- to A: - will be eligible for 35% scholarship on the semester tuition fee.
  • If student’s grade is A+ and above: - will be eligible for 50% scholarship on the semester tuition fee.

However, the above scholarship will be immediately withdrawn if the student’s performance does not fall in any above mentioned categories. The calculation of the performance will be on annual basis. Once a student regains his performance in any year of study, the scholarship for that year will be reinstated.

Conditions

  • No scholarship will be awarded to any student enrolling at AURO University under Lateral Entry.
  • No scholarship will be awarded to any student enrolling at AURO University having a gap in his education after the last qualifying examination and his current year of enrolment. Such students are eligible to receive scholarship from subsequent semester onwards and will be governed by the University’s Student Performance based Scholarship Programme.
  • Students from International Boards will be eligible for scholarship only after the submission of all documents (along with equivalence certificate) to the Admissions Office duly verified / validated by Programme Office
  • The Scholarship Committee will have final authority to grant the fee waivers.

Guest Lectures - Regular guest lectures by experts from industry, as well as workshops, live projects and industry visits help students relate theory to practice in real life situations.

Sports and Extra-curricular Activities – Various facilities are provided by the University for Sports like cricket, soccer, basketball, badminton and athletics. Facilities for extra-curricular activities ranging from theatre, music, art, quizzing, debates, and more provide students with multiple avenues to express their talents and to develop new interests.

CDC - The dedicated Career Development Centre (CDC) provides students with resources and avenues for career and professional development while they are studying as well as after graduation. This includes career counselling for individual students to prepare them for internship, placements and recruitments. The CDC also organizes workshops on a variety of useful topics such as choosing the right career, preparing CVs, drafting covering letters, facing interviews, grooming, corporate etiquette, job search strategies and options for higher studies in India and abroad.
